Ok just browsing through the money savings expert website and noticed i may be entitled to a fair bit of tax back.

I really am pushing this as i had a letter drop on the mat on dec 23rd stated i owe around £1000 tax.

Looks like i can claim £100 a year for the past 6 years for cleaning of my branded work uniform and also looks like my house banding may be incorrect.

I am in band b atm and houses were selling just under the 40k mark in 2000. By deduction the houses in 1991 should be reasonably under that mark and put me in band a. Saves me over £150 from this year onwards and potential claim back for the last 4 years.

Has anyone claimed either or these? How long does it take? Any other benefits the hard working tax payer can claim back?

Hi Reuben,

My undsterstanding of the uniform washing rebate is that you are given an allowance of £60 a year, of which you can claim the tax back on. So I understand it's about £12/year which would be £60 in total for 5 years. Someone else may know more.

Regarding council tax, what are the other houses in your street banded at? If they are all B (assuming identical type houses) then I think you may struggle to get it rebranded to A. Again I'm no expert but I did look into this previously
