Some of you may know that my head gasket went last year, so I was faced with a decision. Repair the head gasket, or build a fully forged engine and make the big bhp car I've always wanted.
Well, I went with the big bhp option!
Barbz and I had conversations at length about what setup I was going for, and decided we were going to try and build the most powerful 2l 20vt to date. After a lot of deliberation, I went with a rather large turbo to say the least.
Something most people would be afraid of even looking at as LAG springs to mind!
Not only that, but the pistons and rods were carefully chosen and the rest of the components to compliment the build. I must admit, it was pretty laggy before the car was mapped, but it didn't really bother me as I was always going for top end power, as that is what I enjoy.
Now, I've not driven the car yet, as I'm hopefully picking it up on Friday, but Flea said after mapping it spools surprisingly quick and he was very surprised by the results!
So it made 563bhp and 400lbsft at 8krpm. But here's the thing - the power keeps climbing after this point, and Flea's dyno can only read up to 8krpm. So he effectively maxed out his dyno.
This means it will make even more power at the top end. Flea has yet to finish tweaking the map on the road, and will raise the rev limiter a bit more
, so it will be interesting to see what power it's capable of after that.
Oh, and this was made on 97 Octane Texaco fuel.
For now, that's all I can say as I've not driven the car yet. Flea will do a write up as well about his experience, but to say I'm over the moon with the results is an understatement.
Barbz, you know I love you man, and I must say a massive thanks to Flea for actually listening to my requests of pushing certain elements of the car to where I was happy with it. If you want one of the quickest coupes around, only talk to these two guys.
