what ever happened to milk arriving at 4/5am? I'm only 30, but i remember when that was what we expected.

We've tried 2 of the "modern day" milk deliveries, thinking we'll give them a chance etc - both promised milk at around 5am on the doorstep, which works. Past 8am, we've gone for work/nursery run etc. Pointless.

Needless to say, both were cancelled, the last after their first delivery, at gone 8am, and the previous was kind of "whatever time they made it we'd get it"! Why cant they do an early Milk run like before?

Milk gets delivered on our road at around 2-3 am, by a van, which roars away in a very un-milk-float way. We thought it was drug dealers to start with...

6am for ours... so it's just freezing when I get it in at this time of year!

Oh and you have to have the little 1 pint glass bottles...far cooler than a boring 4 pinter!

Delivered milk pah!

We always used to do this but it would be frozen solid in winter and have started going off in the summer!

Milk? What about the mail? When I was young it turned up around 6 in the morning. Now, before 12 if you're lucky. Which is because they now promise "it'll arrive tomorrow" instead of "maybe tomorrow, but certainly the day after that". To be honest I don't care about next day delivery for regular post. Happy to pay if I actually want it. In addition to this, here in Belgium, we used to have main post offices and local offices. In the morning, the mail would be transported in mass to the local offices, where postmen would walk out / jump on a bicycle and deliver it around 6. Now... the postmen are given mopeds, to drive to the main post office, pick up the post for their personal round and drive to your door to deliver around 11. If you're not at home for recorded delivery, they will take it back to the main office at the end of the day, and then the next day it is transported to the local office where you can pick it up. It's really silly. Waste of time, energy, resources,... And very customer unfriendly. Crazy.

The thing I find bizarre is that the milk that's delivered has a much shorter Use-By date than the milk from the supermarket (by about 4 days...)

That's true of the milk we get delivered but I put that down to it being organic. We get ours delivered but for some reason quite often at about midnight. rolleyes

I canceled ours after we sussed he was taking payment for certain weeks from my wife and overlapping these same weeks when asking me to pay when I came to the door. I'd like to say it was an honest mistake but it happened once too often. Shame but never again.

Left a bit of a sour taste. And where's the milk of human kindness eh?

We have milk delivered at work, and a few times it was off by Monday morning (Friday delivery) According to the milkman, the supermarkets use preservatives (more/better??) in theirs to keep it fresher. No idea how much truth is in that? Maybe more to do with shifting older stock
