£600 to spend on the coop #130937

I'm hopefull getting £6oo back from the tax man due to my office paying me a measly mileage allowance and thought it would be fitting to plough it back into the coop- what should i do ?
My car is a '99 T reg with 72k miles- belts done late last year, strut brace fitted, exhaust recently replaced and tyres are all okay. The brakes are fine (apart from the squealing) though I'm getting the wishbones replaced and the annoying dent in the passenger door is hopefully about to be repaired. Thought about getting the alloys refurbed but am aware these can easily be damaged again so not sure if it's worth the expenditure at the moment.
I'm not into serious performance enhancing mods as my usage doesn't warrant this- i really just want to keep it in top shape as i intend to keep the car for as long as possible.
Any suggestions ?
thanks
Paul

Put it in the bank and await the next wallet emptying installment of coupe ownership.

A sound suggestion folks- my 10 months of coupe ownership has been pretty painless so far, so i daresay something is likely to happen in the near future.

Paul - i would say invest £433 with cosmo. Bilsteins give the coop a really nice ride. Couple that with the new wishbones and you'll be amazed at the difference.

Oh if you do get new dampers you may need new top mounts and bearings.

Ken- i take it you've got these fitted. When are you next planning to be up in Wolves ? I'd be interested to see how your coop runs.

I'd say, if they havent already been changed, that your Oil Cooler and Radiator will probably be on their last legs.

My car suffered its first rad failure at around 48,000 miles and 6 years of age. It suffered Oil cooler failure at about 60,000 miles and 7 years of age. The clutch also lasted about 42,000 miles, so I'd bank on one of these going next. From a specialist the Oil cooler is approx £300 fitted, rad is again about £200-£250 fitted, and a clutch about £450 upwards.

You could do a bit of preventative maintenance by getting the rad (possibly even the group buy pro alloy rad) done, and the oil cooler changed with your cash. This will save time/money in the long run, as you wont be left stranded somewhere and have the hassle of 2 recoveries/being without car etc... or even worse engine damage due to failure of the oil cooler or rad. I learnt the hard way (but also got them done for free with my warranty).

Sideways a LOT

Carl- hopefully you saw above that i'm getting this sorted, btw, Mrs W was gutted that you identified my coop by the dent- she's still really upset about it happening when she was using the car

LOL ive got a big scrape on the drivers side so got a new door instead but still think cosmetics are always better left till last as long as you dont let rust and stuff in during the meantime within reason..

mmmm. Until now i've always thought black cills really suit porto coops and i'm not convinced about colouring the existing cills (though D52's recently sold coop looked good) and i'm probably even less convinced about the principle of adding say, an LE kit to a standard coop, though i've just seen photos of CoupeDave's and CrazyCoupe's cars and they look really smart. If i added a kit, what is involved if i wanted to remove it again- would the exisitng cills etc then need a respray ?
Probably beginning to regret even thinking about this- definitely the start of a slippery slope.

I myself im going to do just the LE/Plus Skirts at some point as i dont like the look of the bumper lips and i would always fear catching them on things and buggering them, where as the skirts once fited are very very sturdy.

Color coding makes the car look smoother as well and if your getting skirts fitted its not much more work for them to mask off the bumpers and spray them up to blend them in as well

Always worth keeping some cash aside to look after the coop as well as while it may only earn pennies in the bank the pennies help
