Black Sabbath guitarist legend - Invented heavy metal: Corrected that for you! Influenced by Hendrix (who wasn't) but Sabbath were the first Heavy Metal band, who utilised memorable guitar riffs, great lyrics and a media image to create a music genre which is still alive and well (and much appreciated by me)!

Heavy Metal? Ah, that would explain why I've never heard of him Sabbath *probably* won't be the choice of background music for the Liberal Democrat party conference...

Edinburgh ,have I miised a link to Tony Iommi with that above post?? Anyway very sad news indeed, but lets not write him off yet. Hopefully it will be treatable and a full recovery the outcome. Although I was a massive Blackmore fan,Iommis guitar and Ronnie James Dios vocals were made for each other, massive wall of riffing guitars and that voice,,,,,

Loved Sabbath. Never saw them with Ozzy. Saw them at Newcastle City Hall when Ronnie James Dio first joined. I went with my brother and we had sat in the wrong seats in the balcony. We were pissed off as we were a couple of rows back at the front. Actually we ended up front of stage to our surprise, read the tickets wrong. Right side of stage so when the lights went up Tony was right in front of me. SG with the crosses in the fret board. Real thrill watching your hero playing all the songs you been listening to. There he was performing them.
Saw at the same venue Ozzy, Blizzard Of Oz with Randy Rhodes who was fantastic. (Randy, was R.I.P.)

Aye. Randy Rhodes was an incredibly talented young man, Blizzard of Oz is a fantastic record as well. Saw Sabbath finish an Ozzy show a few years ago, he and his band had gone off stage, then he returned for the encore by himself, shouting that he didn't have a band... Sabbath come on, crowd goes mental and they finish the show with NIB, The Wizard and of course Paranoid. Epic stuff.
