Been on here for a few years and been through a few Coupes with no problems, havent posted much as i usually find answers after a search through older posts. The problem I have is I installed a GTEC1 today after replacing my smokey turbo and cracked/badly repaired manifold a couple of weeks ago I followed the guide on here and when i turned the ignition 1 turn the radiator fans came on straight away even though the car was cold the key code light came on and car wouldnt start. I replaced the GTEC with the original chip and it did the same thing, after a lot of messing with the original chip i managed to get the car running again, the original chip doesnt look like a standard one to me even though the car seems to drive like a standard car boost in 1st and 2nd is 0.6Bar and other gears boosts to 1Bar for a second and drops to about 0.8Bar
Would like to get the GTEC working if possible so does anyone have any ideas what the problem could be or maybe what the chip i have installed is? thanks
you have installed the GTEC chipe the wrong way around. The writing on the gtech is upside down whencopared to the standard chip. Look carfully at the chip and you can see one corner is sligtly cut off, that correspons the a place on the socket.
The first picture was the one that was already in there and thats running now the second picture is the GTEC installed the black stuff looks like silicone
Maybe you fitted it the wrong way round firstly, this has sh*gged the board so even if it's correctly fitted it won't run right? I have no electrical knowledge by the way, it's just something I'd do If you're fairly local, You could come look at mine (ECU, not anything else ooh err missus).
Looks like the original chip was a Superchip, they use those EVC piggy-back encryption boards and Macronix (MX) proms. The blobs of silicon either side of the socket are used to "glue" the piggy-back board in place as it's extra height makes it liable to fall out of the PCB socket.
And yes, most likely the gtec chip has been inserted the wrong way or is blank/corrupted, the problem with the code light and fans starting is exactly what happens when the ECU can't read anything (useful) from the firmware chip.
Inserting it the wrong way can damage the chip so even fitting it the correct way now may not work if it's been fitted wrongly already. If you got the chip from me just send me a PM and I'll send a replacement.
Thanks for the info Graham i've sent you a PM, And thanks Pinin for today your new Coup is absolutely mint! oh and the noise i thought was my brakes was in fact the front wheel coming loose got a lot worse after your break test sorted now.
