We recently discovered our old 8mm tapes but had no way to view them. One of the wifes colleagues transfered all this footage onto several DVD's wich was great.

We would though like to edit them down using windows movie maker but I can't seem to use the files in the folders on the PC.

Does anyone know what I can use to transfer these files into something movie maker can use?

Are the files '.vob' files?

I did something similar over xmas and used a program called 'womble dvd editor'. It's free to download, think I got my copy from portableapps.com

it's really easy to use, and converts the videos to mpegs!
