Was bored last night so tried a couple of other performance cars with broadly similar performance to the coupe, Just to see how the coupe compares.
So... All quotes are the cheapest out of the lot, and fully comp with a £250 excess, all unmodified.

"R" plate 20VT (mine) £830
"M" Escort Cosworth £1326
"M" Misti EVO III £1716
"P" BMW M3 EVO £1699.85

So there you go. I'll never moan about my insurance again

£1054 for a 1988 Ferrari 328GTB

From Asda as well, so now I can get a quote for the loan I'd need to buy a 1988 Ferrari 328GTB

Dear monos, a secret truth.

Beggars, tried an "L" plate EVO 1 'Grale and the best quote was £1100, with a £1100 excess the coop really is cheap for some things!!

Well, I tried confused.com for my renewal. Declared a +10% chip and nothing else. I'm 45, crystal clear history, no accidents, live in a decent area. Only ONE of their panel would even quote me, and they wanted £1250! Yep, I sure as hell was confused!

Yes Confused.com do NOT like mods, be it strut brace or whatever. It's great for the family chap who just wants the cheapest quote for his 1.6 escort, but will never be able to compete with the specialists like Greenlight, Noel D. and so on if your coop is non std.

The thing to bear in mind with Confused.com is its not 100% correct. I got some quotes on an Escort RS Turbo, which were stupidly cheap, only to find out when I went to process the quote through the actual insurer rather than Confused.com, it had been quoting for a 1990 1.6 Encore, not a 1990 1.6 RS Turbo.

Check it out before you get too excited.

But then again Im 21 and when I ring up for insurance quotes its always a "bend over, trousers down" type situation

James

I think that's the case of the Minority, not the majority. I've used them twice and the price I paid was exactly the quote as it came up on the search.

I just tried confused.com. Not one single insurer would touch me with modifications (chip, filter, and 'Other suspension' (strut brace) options).

Removed the mods and i get a very bizarre result (i'm currently paying £1200):

My current insurer opted out.

Insureandgo want £1764 + £400 excess.
AA want £1682.26 + £650 excess.

ouch! but then...

Lancaster Insurance want £581.36 +£575 excess.

how can there be such a difference!

That excess is crazy Not one single insurer would insure me on there after I declared modifications.

The second time i came to insure my coop i had my renewal from tesco for £750, then i told them i'm having it chipped.
I got quoted £1250 & £900 excess.
Went to Admiral paid £680 & £300 excess

I was 23 with 5 years ncb.

ps
I have had quotes over 2k on a standard car even being 24 now & 6 years ncb.
