Hi all

Would apprciate help and advice here.

My Plus was at a train station last saturday and was scraped by a 4X4 down the drivers side (dent and scrape in the drivers side door, silver paint doen the drivers side front wing)

Note left under my wipers gave a name and number, under that a number of a witness.

Rang the frst number no reply. Rang the second number - very pleasant chap who said he's seen the whole thing and a woman had gone through the space next to my car with this car and not judged the space correctly and scratched/dented my car. He was picking his daughter up and saw the whole thing - she was just about to drive off and he got out and asked if she was leaving details!!!

She grudgingly did and he put his name and number underneath to be a witness if required.

Anyway after several failed attempts to get in touch with this woman I finally spoke to my insurance company (never done anything like this before).

They were great (Neil Willies were the brokers by the way) and started the ball rolling. Accident repair collected my car yesterday and dropeed off Chevy Matiz Auto (nice).

Accident repair centre have just called and said salvage team are coming to get my car as uneconomic repair!!!

Bloody dent in door!!!

I have told them I am coming to get my car asap and anyone taking my car without consent will be considered theft. Also told the insurance company this and they are getting back to me.

I wish to completely retract my insurance claim and go through the small claims court - very annoyed they think it will be £2k to repair a dent in the car door and therefore uneconomical repair.

Anyone have any experience of this and give any advice?

I'm so angry at this - going to kick off in the morning with them.

Can I retract a claim and repair myself? - its a bloody dent in the door!

Hi ask if you can have the salvage rights some companies do, some don't if they do and it is very important that you find this out, and at what cost then you can proceed with the claim and retain the car.

Thanks Spike

I don't want to proceed with the claim! (though I can buy back the car - although why should I have to BUY back my own car?!!)

I just want to retract my claim - take the car home and fix it myself!

Does anyone know the legal standpoint on retraction of an insurance (non fault) claim?

Hi

This proposal of settlement has obviously come in after I have left the office today and therefore I can only comment on what I already know about the original report etc.

As the damage is wing, door and side scrape/scratch the insurers are keen to write this off as the work involved/cost of replacement parts will be fairly high compared to the market value of the car as you have this insured on a market value basis, not agreed value.

The claim can be retracted, you just need to put this in writing to us. Although this may not be the best course of action to take.

I will make it my priority tomorrow to speak to my claims manager and find out exactly what is going on and get back to you.

Regards
Sarah

If you let the insurance company write it off and then buy back the salvage it will be recorded as a cat C or D write-off (probably the latter, by the sounds of it), which will show up on an HPI check.

Dear monos, a secret truth.
