Mine's a second car but I still tax it for 12 months at a time as I want to be able to use it whenever I want without having to mess about with tax and sorn.
I also do not want to pay the 10% or so extra that the government charges for 2 lots of 6 months tax.

It is actually a lot more than 10%. The extra may be about 10% but that relates to a 6 month period. It actually works out at something like a 30% APR if you tax for 6 months rather than 12. Nice to see the government using interest rates which they criticise credit card companies for!!
