2 or 4 channel Amp?? #1201366

I've bought a set of Alpine SPR-176A component speakers along with an Alpine T220 1/2 channel amp 2nd hand for a bargain. I've also got a new set of Alpine 6x9s. On installing these over the weekend I've realised the amp will only power the one set of speakers.

Is it worth having it power the fronts and leave the 6x9s set from the head unit or should I get shot and get a 4 channel amp?

Cheers.

From my experience it's the fronts that need the extra umph. Try it you can always add the amp later for the rears.

bass needs power, so your better of using the amp on the 6x9's and running the components of the head unit!
but for best results get a 4 channel amp or another 2 channel.

Fit the components powered by the amp and either leave the rears out or power of HU.Then add amp for rear speakers if you need them.

I've installed one of these, it's ok and probably could be great if I had any idea on how to set up sound within the car...
As others have suggested, get a 4 channel.

Personally if I were looking for a 4 channel amp this would be my choice...
http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/alpine-pmx-f640.html

You could wire your speakers in a series/parallel combination but you wont have any control over what comes out of each speaker (they'll all receive the same amount of power). Also you would need to check your impendance levels out which means you will need to know what 6x9 you have?

JUST GO FOR THE 4 CHANEL. wink

Thanks for all the replies. Going to get a 4 channel and sell the other one on.

I'll install all the wires and the 2 channel until I get paid so I've got sounds for the Brooklands day. I can just swap the amps (and fuse) over when I get the new one.
