For owners who are running 350 BHP ish, like me, is the SIP a must have ?

I would like to return to some sort of standard set up with a air box. The "Darth Vader" noises are annoying me now. I have read in some posts that Flea himself has said the SIP is not needed anymore.

Has anybody done any back to back tests, either on a dyno or on the road, standard intake versus modded ?

With the standard airbox I appreciate it will need an aftermarket filter( K & N, ITG etc) and perhaps a bigger trumpet.

Thoughts anybody ? Flea ?

Sean

What about keep the SIP and mate it up to the airbox with custom pipework ?

It's not necessary to have a SIP. Just switch it back to the standard airbox with a K+N if it's bothering you.

I'd contend it doesn't make the slightest difference which aftermarket panel filter you use.

Use to have K&N and it was chav as hell.. nice to scare grannies... joking.. i mean chav corsas.

Now have a nice and quiet RAMAir induction kit.. with a SIP of course.

SIP works for me so I have kept it.

Jari did quite a few experiments, maybe shoot him a PM. He mentioned to me that the OE airbox was limiting at high boost above 5k rpm ...

I have been doing performance mods one by one gauging the gains prior to this morning i have done 200 cell sport cat, gtec1 chip, turbo revs fmic all with significant gains ,and this morning a sip with a k&n filter and i feel there is a noticeable difference on acceleration
Even if its a 1 bhp gain its worth it for the noise alone smile
