Hi guys.

In the next few weeks (I'm just waiting for the date to be confirmed) I'm sending the coupe in for a full respray. Before it gets sprayed I'm having the Pininfarina pin holes filled and I was also thinking of having the Zender skirts blended into the car.

I just wanted to get the opinion of others and ask if it's been done before. Is this a good idea?

A few years ago I saw Busa 1300's Broom Yellow with blended skirts and it looked love

Every time I look at mine I think of Kev's old coupe and tell myself that I have to get that done myself.

Hope that helps? laugh

Ive heard horror stories of people who have done this... All you will need its the slightest bump/disruption to the skirts and they will crack along the filler...

... if you do go with the idea make sure they are done properly smile

I agree with mario, done correctly it can look amazing but i have seen some really badly done ones and if they crack they just look awefull plus if they do crack its not just the side skirt have to repair/paint its the whoe rear quater

Dont want to put you off though thumb

i was going to warn against as well as they mostly crack along the join and look worse than if they hadn't been done..it will all depend on the skill of and materials used by,the bodyshop guy..any knock to skirts or even opening and closing doors eventaully crack them unless done very well...so do your homework would be my suggestion

good luck..they look great if done right

Just a thought, have you seen blended rear light cups? They realy give a more modern/cleaner look to the back end. There is a black coop on here that's had it done, it looks love
If I didn't have two tone paint, I'd have done mine when it was re-srayed. Can any one find the images to show 007?

The bodyshop did talk about cracking but said that if joined along the full length of the skirt it will be fine. Also my skirts are genuine Fiat plastic, maybe this will help? The joints will be fibreglass joins, not filler.

I have seen blended rear light cups on a red coupe, and to be honest I personally wasn't a fan. I could be tempted to have the boot lock removed but probably will keep it as an emergency entry point. wink

i have one of the auto ds spoilers that sits along the boot edge and its the only part of the bodywork that has issues..it was blended and has cracked all the way along on both sides which then allows water in the crack behind the paint and it eventually gets worse and worse..as i say it's got to be done well .. the rest of the car is a lovely job

You will always have a lower door split whatever you do, and that will look kind of lonely with blended skirts.
In other words - don't..

Personally I wouldnt. Unless they give you a guarantee that it wont crack... lets face it... they wont frown

I wouldn't... its just simply not worth the extra cost given the eventual cracking frown

+ 1 for the blended rear light cups, looks really good.

if i ever respray one of my coupes this will be on the to do list.

not sure about the skirts mind you, as Per said, you will still have the door gap/line so might look a bit odd.

dont think i've ever seen a coupe with them blended though so cant say for sure.

i dont think it suits, you can see all of the lines of the car and then that bits blended in.

Up to you anyway, its all down to what you like smile

I saw a coop with blended skirts in the flesh the other day, didn't do it for me with the lines as Mario says, plus it reminded me of something Japanese. I can't quite put my finger on the Japmobile, anyone see a similarity?!

Can't put my finger on why, but it doesn't look quite right (IMHO). Compare the photoshop to Mario's signature pic and I genuinely think that it needs the seam to pick out the other lines. Not saying it looks terrible but just don't think it adds anything.

p.s. - I know what it is - it makes the door stand out too as pronouced. Weld up and blend in the door (doing a dukes of hazard) and it might look wicked.

Think that looks better blended in, less like they were just stuck on the side.

Yeah i could get on board with that.

BUT, no amount of filler is going to withstand the amount of flexing that a una body chassis like the Coupe goes through.

Ever tried opening/shutting the door when its jacked up?

Would look good for 5 mins, and then look awful cracked.

my mate did this on his 16v with the LE skirts and it just didnt look right.
plus he managed to crack them when jacking his car up.

shortly after that was repaired a few months later and for some reason or the other they just cracked again.

worse decision he has ever made and he wish's he never did it.

plus it makes jacking the car up a reall issue if its lowered, and if you ever get new shoes fitted, you will be standing over the people with a stick waiting for them to do it wrong.

i wouldnt do it, it will just cause an extra thing to look out..
