I'm about to buy a registration number privately.
Are there any pitfalls?
How can I prove it's genuine, that the seller actually has an official dvla certificate?
What's involved in the buying process?
Any other info?
Thanks

A chap was selling OAN13L for £11k on ebay. I put in an offer of £1k, hoping he might be desperate for the money, but alas not.

When you sell a numberplate, the seller has a retention certificate which he fills in (partly with your details), and then sends to the DVLA. They process it and you get your certificate through. You then use that to apply the reg to a car. I sold a reg myself a couple of years ago, and at least think that's how I did it smile

Think yourself lucky. Somebody on the 7 of 9 fan site set me up on a date with 13 of 21 ... man, she was a whole unimatrix by herself, if you know what I mean.

More help needed please.

The original purchaser has sent me a 'certificate of entitlement' V750

His name and address is at the top under'purchaser'.
My name is under the heading 'nominee'

Is this right?
Do I now own the reg. number?
I ask because on the rear of the form it states
' You the purchaser named over the page, has been given the right.......to assign this reg. number.
This right has been granted to you alone and is non-transferable. The Nominee....has no rights to this reg. number.'

Can someone please help?

laugh

As the nominee you can now assign the plate to your car as only people named on the certificate can transfer the number onto a car in the same name.
