I had some fun with tolga that morning on the way there, once in mid to high gears I was starting to open a gap. Then we had a chat he said he's running around 300 ish bhp. Saying that he doesn't know for sure, sounds bloody good aswell! He must of had a perfect start.
Now in the 400+ bhp club!

Moosey / Marco - don't worry about it - I attend these events knowing full well that I could break something
TBH, I've been spectacularly lucky so far - I've probably done a dozen or more Santa Pod days and six TOTB events and never had to go home on a recovery truck. Simply going by the law of averages meant that I had to break something sooner or later. Dumping double the power through a gearbox was always going to have some negative effects eventually. However, I still say the track was too grippy - Specky's 10.04-second run would go some way to supporting this view
The box is already off - I'd destroyed the diff, the diff casing and the bellhousing, as well as cooking the viscodrive when we towed it out. The Viscodrive is an easy replacement, so I'm not really bothered about that. I'm hoping that I've sourced the diff and casings from JBT, so I just need Matthew to go and collect them for me - car should be back on the road later this week, depending on Paul's workload Cleverly edited Nigel - I saw Speckys 10.04 - then left for my way home, And heard he then did a 9 sec pass, CLEARLY not the case, Just took a look and think that run was his fastest.. Just to clear that one up.. Chrissy

Like most have already said it was a bitterly disappointing day!! I along with a few others was there around 9ish and was number 6 in the queue, therefore with it not looking too busy I was hoping to get a few runs in early on, however on first viewing the strip I was shocked at how wet it was and just knew that it was going to be a good couple of hours waiting.....
First run was a 14.01 at 100mph which I was quite pleased with, however it was nearly 90 mins before I was back at the front of the queue and when I finally lined up they closed the other lane so it was a boring solo run!! I switched ESP off and dialed a few more revs in than before but got a crap start that ended with a dis heartening 14.2....I have to agree that it felt especially sticky and hence I could have dialled in more revs to get a better launch. When I went back round to queue up again the queue was right back up to past the Drifting section, they'd just started letting the bikes go again so I called it a day (2.30pm!!).
I suppose I should be happy that I got 2 runs in but unfortunately it was just one of those days at the Pod, some days you can get 20 runs, other times 1 or 2. I've said for years that when it's been raining that the Staff should have a stand by crew who come in early to clear the track for a 9.30am start, but it will never happen.
No real highlights unfortunately as I didn't really get a chance to see much racing as I spent most of the time queuing. There were some nice Coupes there and the best action I saw wasn't at the Pod it was on the M1 slip road (J15) and down past the closed Shell station, may have been Technics and Tolga?
Sorry to read about people's woes, this may sound harsh but you have to have Nigel's attitude when it comes drag racing etc, at the end of the day it's a Coupe and there is always going to be a weak spot that gets exposed. When I used to drag my Cerb I was constantly paranoid that something was going to go bang, but fortunately it never did.
I was in the old light green A6 barge.....
Jules.

Who is who??
I sadly didnt speak to any of you, was too cold and SHY lol.
So,
Sprinty 20vt black alloys and after market rear valance, putting in fairly good times??
Vinci LE?? Looked like it had been subject to paint stripper abuse??
Moon grey plus, Avez?? Mmmmmmmmm loved it J88CK?
S Plate LE black putting in good times? Maybe JBT?
Forged green 20vt for sale. what on earth have you done to your wheels? looked like a lush coop with Hammerite wheels..
Pristine Broome 20vt with polished rims.. mmmmmmm
Chrissy The forged green 20vt is mine, thanks for the opinion on the wheels. I refurbed them and thought i'd give some chrome paint a try, obviously to poor effect. I thought 3 of the 4 looked decent but the front passenger one blistered for some reason, i'll have another go at that one.

did any one see a time for the 106 turbo supposidley 450bhp i did see 2in the que with impressive engines and big turbos but no evidence of a 450bhp run to be honset do think the small hatchbacks really stood out setting consistant good times although found them least reliable with one close to the end coating the track in gearbox oil, also any one notice the mk1 audi tt on 19's with mk2 electronic spoiler, and an array of bonnet vents the car was stunning though and did speak to the guy, also quite smug but he was pushing 590bhp with 50 shot of nos and still running with standard box!! crazy hi-lift cams that wer bouncing about under the rocker and he didnt set a time once limpning over the line both times, not sure if it was that box or his super deep pockets didnt buy him any expertees with his mods, that car could set a great time with the right set up.

Then they had a decent run and put in a 17.2 run.420bhp at the wheels my ars3 The black 106 next to me a few times has one of our company logos on it and hes running 200bhp and was putting in times similar to mine of in the 13's S Plate LE black putting in good times? Maybe JBT? Yes that was me,sorry i didnt mingle a bit more but kind of get a bit carried away on the track. Maybe next time Did see a few Leons though.

Suppose i best say some stuff now. I enjoyed the day albeit was extremely cold! The convoy up with techincs was fairly chilled out until Tolga joined the party in the M1 50mph road works, after that they were gone and i didn't see them until i got to Santa Pod, that will teach you for hooning off and missing Junc 14 turn off As everyone has said, the course was extremely sticky, you could hear when the guys were walking about it the squelching / sticky noise coming from their feet and watching the amount of axle tramp all the car were getting, it doesn't surprise me some went bang, which was 2 coupes, 1 corsa, 1 pug 106, 1 mk2 fiesta (with added punching of the steering wheel). Cyclone, so that who the Audi A6 was, was quality to watch, just no noise and no fuss I have got 27 odd video's off the phone, but it seems due to the nature of HTC when filming in HD it has the odd pause through the video. Only 1 i've uploaded so far and that was JBT vs TolgaIt was a good day to meet up with some regular posters on here and actually to get to put a face to a forum name

I have to be honest, I love to see the quick coops, And I love speed,
I have been to the pod anually for the last 5 years, This is my last visit, the quing, the cold, the waiting etc etc, its just too much, Plus the 340mile round trip!
Im thinking I would enjoy a track day far more, More driving time and more skill generally and less breakages, Id be going up with a few other mates to make it competitive..
Possibly Castle combe in the spring, If anyone fancies a meet with more drivong involved - I shall do a thread in due course,
Cheers

In response to Chrissys post, track days are definately much more fun. Although they do cost a lot more. You've got to take into account brakes and tyres. They only last a few trackdays at best. And then the fuel. I normally go through a tank of fuel at a trackday without the travelling.
But it is definately worth it and I think people worry too much that they will crash there car or break something on a track day. Go out and enjoy your cars!

Cyclone, so that who the Audi A6 was, was quality to watch, just no noise and no fuss Yes that was me, one of my less glamourous cars I've ran at SP but with the intent to upset a few of the nicer and supposedly faster cars there, however due to issues at SP didn't really do this justice. It runs well though and it basically has the B5 S4 engine with just with narrower bore downpipes and as standard a lower state of tune. All I've had done is to have the pre-cats gutted and a remap via MRC, so it's probably knocking on the door of 310-320bhp, which given that it's a heavier beast than the old S4 and auto is probably good for a 13.8 quarter which feels about right. These can be picked up for well under £3k and come with lots of extra's and make a comfortable mile munching cruiser. Jules.

Yes that was me, you were in convoy with a Moon Grey plus and I could see you both behind me going for it, so I backed off to let you catch up then sped up lol. I needed to check tyre pressure etc hence pulling off into the Shell stn only to find it was closed!! Didn't notice the GSXR and one of the Coupe's was throwing out a fair bit of black smoke? Jules.

maurizio. Yes you were, it was from a set of lights, think you were tucked in behind him and I was up ahead, I pulled off at the shell stn but think you went straight on, Tolga may have slowed down to turn off also but realised it was shut and carried on I think.

The only video was of me with no gears . Managed a 27 second 1/4 on that one with only a first gear launch. Doh.Need to sort these paddle clutch issues before next time as the tool kit i wedged under the pedal isnt coping well.

When i was at crail a couple of months back i was having a slight issue with the clutch pedel sticking to the floor on a couple of runs JBT what causes this? Basically the design of the paddle means that on the standard slave it over stretches the throw. They always stick at high revs. Notice in my drag there the launch was good but then the change to second meant the clutch didnt return and didnt until nearly the end of the strip. The only easy fix is to put a restrictor under the clutch pedal. They work fine until about 2 inches from the floor. Then they stick everytime under hard launches. I drove your car a few times and it happened on me once when driving it hard.Had a few complaints since as well about the paddles.Working on an easy fix so wont be long.
