Admittedly it is part of an Admiral Multicar policy and the mileage is 7000 p.a. Even so:

£174 a year fully comp. on a 20VT. Can anyone beat that?

How the heck can your premium go up over 70% in one year? frown

I take it you have lost all your no-claims bonus and/or had a conviction?

if not say bye bye & start shopping round

How the heck can your mental arithmetic come up with a figure of 70%? wink

An increase from £370 to £1,300 is 351%

So his old premium was about 70% of what they are asking for renewal. It has not gone up by 70% though smile

that's damn good, where's that from and under what conditions? I have just renewed mine through footman James on a classic car policy with 6k miles limit, and my premium increased from 225 to 295 this year. I'm 35 with max no claims and 6 points, which hasn't changed from last year. Could probably save a few pence but my time is worth more than I'd probably trim off that!

Very similar to mine, only I'm 35 with 18 years driving exp (feeling decidely old saying that), 6 points too, with a 6000 mile limit 295 fully comp

330 for 25yo not bad though to let you young folk loose on the roads with a coop laugh

Hi to all,

I have just purchased a 20v non turbo 1998, I just checked with footman and the car is not old enough for classic option. I choose modern just to see what they would qoute and..... £1050 or there about. Wow thats steeper than compare the market. and im 36 with no points and 7 years no claims. Anyone have any other suggestions please???

Someone at footman James doesn't know their censored from their elbow if that's what they are telling you. My last 2 years (well only 2 years) of coop ownership have been insured on a classic policy fully comp with a 6k mileage limit, last year my 97 sprinty 20vt was 245, this year my 98 Porto is 295!

Agree with Hovedan, I have an agreed value classic policy with Footman James, paying £160 a year approx on my 1998 20VT, on an agreed value, 1500 miles per annum, comp cover as a second car and have had this for a few years now.

^ those Footman James policies also include UK & European breakdown cover.

For a premium around £160 I expect it'll have to be garaged; they won't cover you if damaged on or stolen from your driveway if you've told them it's garaged to get the low premium.

No performance mods either.

It IS covered whilst on the drive, doesn't have to be garaged, we couldn't fit anything bigger than a mini in our garage.

We have just upgraded it to our new LE purchase, still covered on the drive, (full theft cover included, maybe it depends on your postcode, as we are in leafy Worcestershire) At an extra cost of £70 on 3000 miles.

Have even kept our 20VT on cover for upto a month whilst selling. So presently have two Coupes covered on an agreed value basis!!! For around £240

Well thanks guys for the info, I presume the postcode does have something to do with it but i didnt expect it to be so much more. I suppose i better get on the blower to them and figure out if they can reduce it. thanks again

So do Footman James not insure modded coupes then?? I was going give em a go when I renew as I wont be doing hardly any milage but I do have just a few little mods (turbo, fmic, sus . . etc etc wink

To add to that my cheapest ever premium was £511 and I'm 27 with 7 years ncb and a squeeky clean license grr

I went for a modded policy for my 20vt 5yrs ncb with Adrian Flux, declared ecu chip, suspension and alot more- 460 fully comp with 10000 business use. I was a bit gutted as my last car Type R Accord was just 230, but suppose it wasn't modded. Wish I could get a sub 200 premium, but then again when I was much much younger I was paying 850 for an Uno 45 fire!!!! shocked

I declared all my brake and suspension upgrades to them and they were fine.
But I got the feeling they're not too happy to cover coupes with with engine mods.
I think they're picky about speeding points and bans !!
