Stunned by all the good looking landies there.

Its pretty horrific, for a few jobs in car dealerships and polish factories they've hamstrung the spares market for years.

I can't believe the sudden removal of so many older cars isn't having a knock on effect for garages and motor factors frown

I dont think it will affect motor factors or garages because they generally fit new parts (or sell new parts).

If there were less cars on the road it would have an affect but all of the scrapped cars have just been replaced by something newer which requires oil, tyres, spark plugs, air filters etc etc

If you've now got a new car you'll be going to the dealer for 3 years at least, and between owners not buying parts and independant garages not buying parts that will knock on to factors and the people who supply them.

The dealer network has their own suppliers.

I'm more concerned about the effect it'll have on learner drivers, my first car was a 1.1 Fiesta for £300, so many learner cars got scrapped, what are people going to buy to learn to drive in in 5 years time?

You say that; but I think there are still plenty of basic, bottom-of-the-range sheds out there to be had cheaply.
A lot of people scrapped cars to buy new ones, but I think may people who are initially driving things at that end of the market were not able to afford a new car and stuck with what they had.

Another point is that many of the people who went in for this bought rubbish (Hyundi, Kia, Vauxhall, etc) so these cars will be worth very little in a short time.

The scrapage scheme was irresponsible copy-cat governing by a second-rate government of the time.

At a time of excess and easy credit... encourage more excess and easy credit.

Support for Rover... minimal. Support for LDV bog all.
