What would you reccomend for the Fiat?

If it's snowing, then I use my Landie, whilst the wife has used Vredestien SnowTracs on her Skoda in the past, which we have found to be excellent.

As a huge fan of winter tyres, is it possable to fit steelies from other vehicles within the Fiat group during winter, therefore saving the alooys from damage or corrosion?

What wheels off other Fiat models have the same stud pattern and off-set, whilst preferably being a little narrower?

cheers.

When I lived in Finland, nobody used snow chains, not that I saw anyway.
We just used winter tyres wich had studs protruding.
Seemed to do the job although you were mainly driving on ice and not deep snow.

Here's something I once put together a while back when wondering what other cars had the same fitment. It came from a number of websites and I can't verify any of it, but it may give an idea of where to look. Narrower tyres shouldn't make any difference as the psi inside will still give the same contact patch. You'd be better of adjusting the tyre pressure to get the desired result.

Thanks Trappy smile

Should be able to pick up a set of steelies for most of the above for next to nothing.

The reason why I was asking about narrower wheels is that I imagine more regular sized winter tyres are a hell of a lot cheaper?

They probably are a bit cheaper, but also being narrower is an advantage in snow, as the tire is less prone to riding on the snow, and will dig in a little deeper. Apparently.

remember although the PCD and centre bore may be the same, most of these wheels will probably not have the offset to fit over the brembos on a 20vt!!

The tyres with studs (used in many northern countries) are banned in most European countries with moderate/hot climate... Are they legal in the UK?

I haven't heard that they are not legal, if that helps?

I cant imagine anything in the MOT test that would render them illegal.

I believe they're not legal in the UK. But if one wishes to drive in Europe in winter, snow chains *are* required. When I looked into this, there were several companies doing short term rental of chains and basically they just specified the tyre size - usually a fairly large range.

You could use two of the space saver spares on the fronts laugh

Actually, that might work chinny
