Very lucky indeed

That is absolutely astonishing, and unbelievable that there were so serious injuries.

It reminds me of an article I watched last week regarding a crash at Le Mans many years ago, where a car was launched into the crowd by a set of freak circumstances, killing and maiming dozens in the crowd.

This weeks crash is either a wonderful testament to improvements in car and motor sports safety, or just a bloody lucky escape.

I believe Conway 'only' suffered a broken leg but was one very fortunate boy indeed. I think this one shows both an element of luck but also improvements in safety - the drivers cell looked pretty much intact. I was amazed nothing went into the crowd too fortunately. Theres been some horrific US circuit crashes of the years - Not wishing to sound morbid but if anyone wants to YouTube 'Gordon Smiley' you'll see what I mean. I've read a few books by Sid Watkins and the like which are fascinating just for the insight into Sports Psychology.....
