I am having problems with the immobiliser. I think the yellow box is at fault but to be honest would be happy with having it removed as I want to fit a more reliable system. Anyone have an ideas on how to get a "quick fix" on yellow box or have removed before sat as im lost for ideas? also can i get emergence start code from fiat? thanks

As far as I know you can throw it to the yellow bin laugh BUT you´ll need ECU re-programming otherwise the engine will never start. I mean reprogramming in specific way, which few would offer - making the ECU not to look for "allowance code" from the yellow box. Once had a link to a guy who had the chips already done, have to search it...

Have you fitted a Gtech or similar chip?

As for "more reliable system" I struggle to think of one! The Fiat imobiliser can fail but it is not a common failure at all and as an imobiliser it is very effective. I have yet to hear of a coupe stolen without access to the keys.

True as bockers said, the OEM system are generally much secure than the majority of aftermarkets. Starting the car without the proper key, yellow box+ECU+key set change, or changing only the ECU chip with the mentioned above (its not tuning one, its more likely hijackers one) is virtually impossible. As per yellow box fault have heard of only few cases in cars who had suffered a lot in this life. Will search for that if still interested, but till saturday...

Lifted this from alfaforum.

Most immobiliser problems are not with the immobiliser.
First most likely,
the battery went flat, battery removed for charging and disturbed contacts in the relay/fuse area near battery. (this stops the power supply to ecu).
second most likely,
Immo proccessor is stuck in a system crash condition, due to low supply voltage at some time. Unplug immo for 10 mins, then connect up again. This usually cures it.
third occasional fault,
Immo running at low voltage has crashed and corrupted the memory. Need to get the corruption corrected.
The change everything approach will only work if the power supply is present, so important to check that first.

Did you fit a new battery? If the old one has sat for a year is will be shot and will not be sending enough amps for the imobiliser or ecu. Try a a new battery.

Did the problem occur after fitting the chip. It is very easy to fit the chip the wrong way round which will give you the same symptoms.

I cannot believe you let Fiat anywhere near this car, it will cost you an absolute fortune and they will only make matter worse frown

no the chip was fitted ages ago. I have just got off the phone to fiat who say that they cant decode the problem and do I want them to look into the matter further... I said NO!. I have a new lock set coming tomorrow so im going to change the yellow box, ECU and the red key's transponder chip in my red key to the new one so i don't have to change all the locks, This should work rite?

Phew. Yes it should work, it does sound like you code box has lost its memory. Good luck.

I find it amazing that Fiat do not seem to be able to read their own Imobilser system or A/C system crazy

Many of the go-faster chips have the immobiliser bypassed, so maybe immo failure is out of the equation!.
It will be interesting to see what the outcome is.

Rite here is the outcome........ Fiat could not deliver my car back to me!!! They told me that their tow truck had broken down, Yer rite! Sounds to me like they had no intentions of bringing my car back today. We have now arranged for the car to be delivered back tomorrow so should have fitted new parts and posted by same time tomorrow (lets hope so anyway).
