Hi all,

a couple of months ago I was made redundant which put me into a bit of financial bother. I have just started a new job which means commuting into london each day. This makes the coupe an expensive weekend toy.

I cant really justify paying tax and insurance on a car that I will barely use. I have looked for a company that does weekend insurance but they dont seem to exist?!

Just wondering what my coupe is likely to be worth.
the spec is as follows:

1998 ‘R’ 20vt steel grey. 99,600miles.
GT28RS, Apexi filter, tapered SIP,3”H&S downpipe,Powerflow 200cell sports cat, Powerflow 2.52 stainless steel exhaust, Walbro fuel pump with wiring mod,Baileys DV26, uprated injectors, Flea remap, stainless steel tubular manifold, pro alloy FMIC, Greddy profec B controller.Sparco strut brace. Uprated engine mounts.aluminium dash rings, official fiat gear knob and gear lever(quite rare/expensive apparently)

Exterior:
Postert side skirts, M3 style lip spoiler, dark grey alloys, HIDs, color coded rear bumper, L.E lips(not fitted).
Red dot grooved discs with mintex pads.

Bad points:
Clutch will need changing eventually for an uprated clutch. Small dent in the rear(under driverside light but may get repaired soon)

Think thats it really, Loads of service history and cam belt was done 1.5years ago.
Great power 339bhp with 317lbs of torque.(thanks to flea!)
Im not sure whether Id be better off breaking it or seeing if I get a decent price for it?
I am really trying to save money else where in order to keep the coupe but things don’t look good at the moment.

Any advice or comments welcome.
Thanks,
Broadley

You might be able to save on insurance if you limit it's usage to pleasure only and for a limited number of miles.... depends how much you will want to use it at weekends really

Yeah that could be an option.I'll have to call up my insurance company and see what discount they would offer me.

Yep, restricting mileage and removing commuting should save a bit of cash on the insurance.

Also, it's not just the usage - even if there is nothing wrong with it, due to your redundancy/financial if anything major should happen to go wrong are you covered?.

This was the problem I faced when I brought my house - my coupe was near mechanically flawless, mileage/mpg/insurance/usage were no issue really I I loved it laugh

But with all my spare money going on the house + my outgoings increasing by £300 a month I decided to sell it as should anything major have gone wrong, I would have been stuffed, as I wouldn't have had the money to get if fixed, therefore be off the road.

But...

BOY am I regretting it now frown it turns out I could and SHOULD have kept it!!

Yeah I keep thinking to myself it's not logical to keep it.then I go for a drive and think of all the reasons to keep it!
