well I just agreed my insurance earlier today. Next thursday I will be 21 and thats when the policy will start.
My area isnt great for insurance and so mine always seem more expensive than they should.
Anyways, I will be 21 with 3 years NCB, 3 points from 06.
Price comparison websites wouldnt get me anything less than 1900 for TPFT.
Phoned around loads today, in the end I've got it for 1350 with breakdown cover thrown in too. I know it is alot of money but this is the cheapest I could get by far and so have gone with it, from Adrian Flux

yea give them a go mate. that is on a limited milage policy, and the car is garaged etc. Had to haggle them down quite a bit, it started off at £850, I shopped around and quotes and told HIC about them and got the price down. Good thing about HIC is that there uk call centres so I always go back to the same person so that helps quite a bit.

im 22 2 years no claims and an accident and mine with admiral 10 month bonus accelerator is £730 fully comp

when i put my mum on as an additional driver it saved me £300

only the 16v, but 4 years claim free driving, got no no claims discount, got no points either. but was £722.00 fully comp inc breakdown, with my mum and dad as named drivers, trust me it nocked hundeds off by adding them to the policy. Try Admeral and Money Supermarket

Yeah, nice bit of fronting...here's hoping nothing happens while you are driving the car...be a shame if you turned out to be uninsured and at fault (especially if someone were hurt)

I know of two people currently under investigation of fronting a insurance policy, its not worth it, and it annoys the hell out of me when 99.9% of the people on here pay good money to be insured legally.

Do your self and every one around you a massive favor and just get your own policy. Also do not be under the illusion insurance company's are above reading forum content...there not if it saves them paying out on a claim.

i dont undersatnd why people take out insurance under their parents name and put themselves on as a named driver. all you are doing is stitching yourself for later on in life... your not going to get any no claims bonus and end up paying a lot later on in life.

its cause insurence is to much for young driver. my friend owned a 51 plate corsa 1.0 and he was paying £180 a month. im a named driver on my step dads punto and its £115 a month and i get named driver no claims for when i get my own car.

Arent named driver no claims discounts specific to your current insurer? I mean, if you switch insurer they wont count towards your no-claims.

So you might have 3 years named driver no-claims, but you're stuck with that insurer so they can bend you over a barrel anyway. False economy.

I found insurance on the 16vt considerably less than my 20vt.

The 16vt was also cheaper then a 20v na and a alfa gtv 2.0

yeah. originally i had a quote for a 20vt before i brought the 16vt. just out of curiosity - didnt actually expect to end up with a coupe at the time.

the quote i had originally was for a 20vt, when i phoned them up and said it was the same car with different engine they kept the price the same. probably doing me out of money now! insurance! lol.

i have just got a quote from direct line for £394 some pence which i think is good considering tesco was charging £700 for the same cover.

thats for a 33 year old though with 14 yr no claims bonus

I liveed in N.W London at the time. No insurance company would insure me on the 20vt

I got insurance in the end with DirectLine on a 20v NA
My first year i paid £1,650 Fully Comp. This year my renual is £800 thats with 3 points, 4 years no claims and downgrading to third party fire and theft.

Personally i think its bang out of order My insurance is almost as much as the value of the car!

AM 21 4 years no claims,clean licence, got an LE told them everythin i have done to it eg wheels,springs,exhaust,air filter,intercooler,and the rest, have not even got half them on yet the car is currently 280bhp insured for £900 third party fire and theft with adrian flux.

wheres your rough location? it seems where you live makes a big difference

i do have it on a limited miles policy of about 4,000 per year.

i've found Lincolnshire seems to be a cheap area for insurance, also makes a difference it being a second/third car, well for me that is.

I was rather disappointed when a search on confused for a '99 20VT with an exhaust and chip came in at £1195 with an £850 excess Im 32, Clean licence, 11 years NCB and live in a tiny town in the sussex countryside !

To put this into context... I was quoted £770 F/C on a 4.0 TVR cebera.....

Best so far is Direct Line, wanting £390 for a stock 20VT

I've just renewed my policy. I was originally quoted £1050 but shopped around and got it down to £950. Thats for a standard 20v turbo, licence held for 3 years, 3 years ncb with Admiral. Oh and I'm 21.

To people with 4 yrs or more no claims, you can 'protect' your no claims. Meaning you can have up to 2 claims and not affect your NCB number.

If you arent on 'protected' no claims policy then phone them up tomorrow and change it to protect you.

Basically, a full, (or even part fault) 'claim' is worth 2 years of bonus, which is taken away from you.
If you have say 10 yrs no claims and have an accident, (even if it's judged one percent your fault), you will lose 2 years off this. BUT! it will not then go to having 8 yrs, it will go to 3!!! (if you dont have it protected)
let me explain..

The baseline for your number no claims bonus is always 5!
If its not protected, the starting figure to be reduced from will always be 5!

Just to all the people who didnt know that.. dont want you to learn the hard way!

I will never pay over £600 for insurance regardless of the car. I think paying £1600 a year to be covered to simply drive a car is total lunacy sorry(unless you are very well off!)
