read an article, think it was in evo magazine or performance car and its stating that in about 2 years time road legal trackday tyres are to be banned, bit upset at this as i was planning trackday tyres on my m3 project but it states that this ban will also lead to cheapo tyres will also not be allowed so overall it will be better for motoring, just a shame cheapo tyres couldnt be chopped and trackday tyres kept, especially as 888's arent that bad in the wet

Surely, all it means is that when you're going on track, you won't be able to drive to the track on the same tyres as you race on.
This in turn means that you will either run on road tyres (unlikely for the serious trackday enthusiast) of you will carry a spare set of wheels and tyres for use on the track.
If you're carrying a spare set of wheels PURELY for the track, then what's to stop you using slicks
I have a feeling that for the comitted, trackdays will get faster

Excatly. The problems will come on wet trackdays, do you take both wet and dry sets of tyres or do you just cane your road tyres round the track.
Also they've said that this wont happen till 2012 and that performance car manufacturers are asking the tyre makers to make 'tyres of comparable performance' to those soon to be banned.
Surely given 3 years of R&D they can do this?
