Just a question - what channel is this on? Now we have BBC 1-2-3 on here in Belgium, I might be able to catch it live...

channel 5 have a on demand service, you should be able to watch it online, you may need to sort out a UK proxy.
If that becomes a issue, PM me and ill sort you out, you wont go with out!

It's people like my mate Dave who owns a 10k Ford Fiesta ST and says pah I could own 5 of your Coupes but I'd rather have a reliable modern performance car....his opinion doesn't really matter to me.

That's what I thought short but sweet with the perfect info for used buyers!

Agreed with Sam though, a Speed Red or Sprint Blue (I'm not biased) would have been better tongue

The 2 minutes or so weren't worth putting up with those presenters... Still all info seemed right and the car was nice and tidy. 2 grand for one though? Not one like they showed tongue

Don't think it was LE side skirts went they Cadia or something?

On second thoughts why was there no mention of 16v or non turbos or BHP or 0-60 times? Seemed a bit rushed really

i thought from what i had read on here there was to be a road test etc?
two minutes of looking at a coupe is onl half the experience no?
plus no interior shots etc
big dissapointment
5th gear is fccuking pants anyway
cant belive i endured 45 minutes of it for two minutes of coupe!
was a nice colour though....

Mrs lickyl is correct they were not le skirts...
I didnt like the review i think the price was miss leading. No way would you get a coupe like that for 2k. I think it will just attract more of the wrong crowd..... Run it into the ground and then scrap it.

Thats just my opinion anyway.

You're right. It would probably cost ANOTHER 2k on top to get it to that sort of level.

Right guys lets get this right,it was my coupe yipee its standard with no engine mods the skirts are Postert.I had the minimal of input, because the scripts were allready done, but i told them in no uncertain way about the costs for cambelt replacement as they were going to use the old Fiat one of engine comes out.As far as the price of coupes for sale the average is about 2k just look at cars for sale as i said mine is standard with no expensive mods.but she did look cloud9. Jonny said to me that if he had his own way he would spend half the programme doing the reviews.Sorry to all who are not Porto afficianados, but thanks for all the nice comments. bow

I hate to be the realist here but totally sorted 20VT with jobs done is not worth anymore than 2k or so. It's not ammune to the market. At the end of the day its an old rather fragile, expensive to run, insure and maintain Fiat.

I have to say it but I laugh at some of the figures that are bandied about here.

Yes it may have had thousands spent on it, yes it may be in great condition, yes it might be one of the best in the country, but in the realworld that makes very little difference to the market.

If it did I'd be spending £2500 on a showroom finish paintjob and sitting back in the knowledge my coupe was now worth a whole load more than it is now. Fact is all it would do is make it easier to sell for maybe £500 or so more than I'd get for it now. Might get £2500 for it rather than £1500 and that would be on a good day.

In saying that there's a sucker born everyday and most hope they'll be our buyer. But that aside £2k for a nice sorted coupe is IMO just about the money.

Come back in ten or fifteen years and you might be looking at £5k, but in the 20 odd years I've been buying 2nd hand cars Parkers and the like have never been that far off the mark when it comes to pricing.

That said unlike the TG coop article, 5G did it proud.

Dont worry, you can buy Ferrari's in lots of different colours so if you do mince there is a colour out there for you.

Ditto.

If Top Gear were told to do a review, they probably would have done something like this and then driven the car off a cliff.

Well done solas ,
I think the portopinko looked great, nice and fresh.
A speed red would have been a bit too 'ferrari, esk'.
but the bodykit was a NO NO NO !! cry
I thought they wanted a standard coupe ?
Sorry solas you've got a great car there but stick all that useless plastic in the nearest skip !! sick

Henry Ford once said: "Any customer can have a car painted any colour that he wants so long as it is black."

Fiat should have said: "Any customer can have a Coupe painted any colour that he wants so long as it is Portofino blue."

We would never have these pointless, endless 'best Coupe colour' arguments.

JKD, organise a poll for the best colour. Then the one with the most votes will officially be the best colour coop to own. Period. laugh

Showing a Ferrari then a Fiat was just wrong for me. If you had to show the two then at least get a Red or Yellow Fiat coupe to give the viewer a better understanding.

Nice car being a coupe but I swear the car is screaming HOMOSEXUALITY biglaugh eeeek!

Next time get a white coupe on the tv thumb

humm 1min 15seconds of 'actual' coupe review - could have better and they missed out the interior, which was a shame.

Disagree with the 2K estimate though, I would love to acquire an original mint example for that amount!

It's not original. The wheels aren't the right colour and there should be no bodykit. Looks in good order though.

I can't believe they didn't mention 220bhp as standard with a 155mph top speed, nor the Pininfarina interior styling.

soapbox I can`t believe how much a slateing this car is getting about the paint colour and the fact that it has skirts and darker wheels! grr
So what if it`s not standard, neither was the vw corrado the week before(audi wheels etc)
Portofino is a beautiful colour love and this is a realy clean example love
Ferrari has a near identical colour it paints the 430 scuderia in!

Take no notice solas, coupe to be proud of thumb

That is completely and utterly gorgeous. And that comes from a bloke that hates Ferrari's.

I dont agree that the car on 5th Gear is getting the slating that it is. Its a really nice example. Everyone has a different taste, i personally dont appreciate those side skirts but the guy shouldn't be knocked for fitting them.

Its nice to see a Coupe on tv though smile and should all be pretty happy with that. It would have been nice if it was longer with far more detail but i suppose the producers fix the lengths of these things a long time ago.

I think when they said standard they meant mechanically standard. Given that the article is about running cheaper versions of current desirable motors, that would make sense, no?
A set of skirts and darkened wheels is hardly going to have the Admiral reaching for the extra zeroes eh?

I'm not a massive Porto fan, but I thought the car looked great on TV.
Think some folk need to get a grip a bit on values too, I paid £1300 for a 98 20vt last year (admittedly a bit leggy at 132k), so £2k for something with a few less miles and slightly more complete service history is about on the money in my book.

What you spend maintaining a car doesn't translate straight into value, does it?
I shifted my 306 for £500, when it probably cost me that in the last year of ownership to keep on the road. I wasn't going to go mental and double the car's asking price purely because a 10 year old motor needs some maintenance.

Thanks for all the comments guys good or bad,i have owned my car for 9 years and have heard it all before lilac, pink,
girly, most of them have only owned a coupe for a couple of years at most and most on this forum will be gone in another couple exept for the most dedicated fans,so it really dosn't bother me.The filming as you know was done in a studio, the lighting guys set up is amazing they show the cars off as if they are in fantastic order you couldn't see any scratches or missing paint on my car but they were there
its all a trick of the lighting including the colour.

I'm just glad a Coupe got on mainstream tv, it's not often it does!

Given the choice though, I think I would have liked to have seen a red LE used, purely because it would have been a closer match to the red 599 they also featured.

I watched it again last night and it just seemed a little pointless, they did paint it in a good light of course which is great, but still!

I personally don't like our coops being on programs like this, it may, and probably does bring them to the attention of the wrong types in my opinion. Seeing a coop featured in Auto Italia or any of the Classic car mags is much more satisfying.

Still, this in no way is disrespecting your car Solas, it looked superb, lighting trickery or not, such a shame they didn't give it a few more minutes, show the interior etc.

Nevermind, well done, superb looking car.

Gareth

I personally thought the porto shown looked stunning and i liked the subtle kit and wheels, porto is a beautiful colour and when the currant bun is out, it looks love I think the article could have been longer but i thought it was quite a positive write up and to be shown as being a 'cheap alternative to a ferrari' is never a bad thing smile

laugh TV Producers eh! Bless them!

It must have been cool seeing YOUR car on TV though, not just a coop, but YOUR coop, and look at all the attention it's got you, I hope your no shrinking violet (no pun intended!).

It did paint the car in a much better light than the Top Gear program, I hated every minute of that.

Gareth

i dont want solas to think i was slating him or the car, cos i wasnt.
i hope to be around for a while, as im after another newer, faster less milage coupe for my next car eventually.
was in decent nick, and obviously looked after.
just thought it was a bit of a short feature.
the comment about the colour was just my opinion, thats all.

Solas I think you should take a snapshot of your Coupe from the 5th Gear feature and use it as your signature on the forum! You've got the most famous Coupe at the moment!

At the moment- I intend to get mine in the next Fast and Furious movie- they are thinking of setting it in either Europe, Brazil or Australia, according to Wikipedia. You can't get more European than a Fiat Coupe biglaugh

Crazy talk switch...off.

I used to have a Corrado VR6 and then a fiat coupe - most people i knew didnt appreciate either car - and now 5th gear confirms what i felt all along - they are great cars!
