Afternoon All,

Just got my quote from Adrian Flux for my insurance due on the 15th of this month. Would have been £450 but...why are these things never simple. I went bankrupt last year when me and the other seperated. The car was bought in my mothers name, when I told the chap the car wasn't mine, he said he wouldn't be able to quote for it. This was apparently because the car is modified (only exhaust system, aftermearket dump valve and panel filter). He then got quite pushy about why couldn't I transfer it over, but talking to him on my lunch break sat at work, it wasn't something I wanted to broadcast around. So the car isn't mine, that's an issue. He also asked if me or the wife (she's down as a named driver) have any CCJs. Well, that was awkward too as I didn't want to start on about being bankrupt in front of my workmates.

So does it make a big difference to insurance if the car isn't mine (it didn't matter last year when I insured it) and if I have a a bad credit rating? Are any other companies better for this than others? Would it affect my bankruptcy in any way if my mother transferred the car into my name?

they ask about the ccj because if you pay monthly they take a credit agreement out on your name to cover the payments
As regards the car being in your name, i dont work in insurance so i couldnt tell you. but i know its a must..

don't be to hard on your self about money issues, your not exactly alone with money problems mate

The issue will not be your mods, they will jsut use that as an excuse not to insure you - is the car registered in your name?

no, in my mothers name, as I was told by Citizens advice that if I had a cheap car, I would be able to keep it when I went bankrupt. So I went and bought a £400 Vectra and they took that too, when I went bankrupt. So I got the Coop in my ma's name, it's her car. It wasn't an issue for this years insurance, I just told them and they were fine with it.

Then she needs to insure it - with you as a named driver.

As I understand it you don't have to be the owner, but the car cannot have any other insurance on it! Had a similar thing happen (Just not bankrupcy) a year or so back!

I could insure myself on my mums car if she had no current insurance on that car! If that makes sense!

This seems like the way to do it.

Sorry I've not updated this, but it really doesn't matter that I dont own it, like elder says as long as I'm the only person nsuring it, tht is fine. Just been to gocompare and the vast majority of insurers won't quote due to the legal owner, but a load will, inclding a quote of £460... :-) I'm taking the mods off for now, so I'm after a standard exhaust, if anyones got one and wants to swap (+cash) for my Milltek cat-back system and de-cat.
