finally got around to doing this, after mentioning it a while ago....

flocked centre console:

and on the car: (needing a hoover, as i attached the switches wth the console face down on carpet, which promptly picked up all sorts of fluff...)

the pictures really dont do it justice, as the light makes it look a bit funny in the pics. (mobile phone cam doesnt help... rolleyes )

for those who dont know, the finish is similar to that you find on the inside of your glovebox, but nice and fresh, rather than 10+ years old. rally cars use it on dashboards for its anti-glare propeties.

the finish hides all imperfections on the plastic. Before having it flocked i stripped off all the rubberised stuff though (which was pretty tatty) as the flock is a hard wearing surface, but if it was laid on top of the rubber stuff then it would come away just as easily.

i really should get the lower ashtray done to match, and maybe the rubberised secton of the main console between the front seats as well.

anyway, im chuffed, and thought i'd share.

Thanks! - no not yet for handbrake console, though like to do it in future. Though im considering buying a flocking machine, as i need something to do over the summer.

clock ring came on the car when i bought it, so sorry haven't a clue where you'd get one from, though there was a group buy for rings a while back, if you find the thread and contact the person who organised it i'm sure they'd be able to tell you who supplies them.

cheers, its not actually 'fluffy' as such the flock is only something like 0.4mm long.

I wanted something fairly subtle, and ideally a material which could be mistaken for OE. I thought about painting the console but didnt want anything too glossy, and with the stereo being removed fairly often needed something as hardwearing as possible.

I'll see how it goes over then next month or so, hopefully it wont start shedding flock (malting?!).
