Well my drivers side ballast has packed up tonight. No amount of switching on and off will bring it back to life. Now's where the 'bought cheap from China' thing bites you in the arse. I think I'll change to 50W HIDS instead of replacing the ballast. These look pretty tasty. How's everyone else getting on with the £35 quid jobbies?

deffo the ballast? try the other lamp attached just incase Not sure what you mean by that? I'm going to try swopping the bulb from the good one to see if it is that if that's what you mean. I noticed that the working ballast was warm yesterday and the other was off but I'm guessing this would be the case if it was just the bulb that had gone. Thing is, a few nights ago, whilst parked outside a shop waiting for the missus, I noticed that the now broken one was flickering on and off. I reckon this was the first sign that the ballast was on its way out. I'll have a swap now and if that doesn't sort it, then order the 50w jobbies instead. I wasn't 100% happy with the 35w anyway, I certainly wouldn't say they are as good as others have...

Right, after pissing about trying to get the bulb out for 5 minutes, I realised it would be easier to just swap the ballasts. Upshot it, they work the other way around. That is, it's the ballast that's faulty. There's not even a slightly buzzing coming from it.
Now I have a choice, buy a replacement ballast off ebay for £36, or replace the whole lot, both sets, for £80.

get a decent set of HID otherwise its good money after bad. I've ordered a set that I linked to a few posts back. £81.50 all in for 50w with a full years warranty. UK based should make any problems easier to sort too.

I'm looking into some of these. Would this model be the equivalent to those that people are using succesfully? Ebay Link Cheers, Ian.

Just a plain 6000k I think, on the main lights. I don't like the fancy colour ones, just want to be able to see in the dark

Nismo, here's the link to the ones I've just bought H1 6k 50w HID Xenon Conversion kit - No OBC Errors I'm looking into some of these. Would this model be the equivalent to those that people are using succesfully? Ebay Link Cheers, Ian. Ian, they're a similar price and the same 35w output, so I'd assume they are of similar quality. The warranty makes them more attractive though. However, For the sake of another £30 (£81.49 vs £52.98), I'd go for the 50w ones I linked (or similar). The 35s do make a hell of a difference over the standard 'candle in a jar' lights, but it isn't a night and day difference Some of the HIDs fitted to new cars are still more powerful and I wasn't 100% happy with their performance on roads like unlit, national speed limit dual-carriageways where you can't use your full beam due to traffic coming the other way. Hopefully these 50w will make all the difference. I'll let you know when I fit them, hopefully tomorrow

Right, I've fitted the 50w jobbies. Well... sort of. The bulbs in the new box appeared to be exactly the same. Same packaging, same text on the tube thing. So I just swapped the Ballasts. I haven't bee out in the dark yet to test, but they were performing very well in the daylight Does anyone know for sure if the buklbs should be different for 35w and 50w bulbs?
