As said, suspension and brakes but a health check first. Front mount intercooler, GTiR turbo and remap (Flea) and boost controller (Flea again for advice). Don't get the exhaust until he decides on the turbo (he could get a full BlueFlame turbo back system if he went for a GT series turbo or even go for a full custom built system no matter what turbo).

Loads of info on here and plenty of people who've been there and done it who can give you far better advice than me.

For £2800 he's probably going to have to do a lot of the fitting him self also.

You really need to decide on the turbo first, and then build the spec from there.

Power Wise:

GTI r or superspool will flow 300bhp, but no more.

GT28R or GT28RS 0.64 will flow that and more - but you need at least a 3 inch downpipe for them to work effectively.

The hybrid turbos will be OK with a standard clutch that is in good condition, the GT28R is pushing it a bit, and you have no chance with an RS

Any of the above options will need a bigger fuel pump with a solid voltage being supplied to it - with the RS you may also need to increase the fuel pressure to get enough fuel in. I'd also make sure that you have a set of standard injectors that have been cleaned.

FMIC is a MUST (along with better induction), as is a boost controller and boost gauge, as well as a live map by Flea.

Personally i'd go for handling options first, but that is down to personal preference:

Pagid Blue pads / Mintex 1155's
5.1 brake fuild,
grooved 3G discs when the standard ones wear out.

Suspension / ARB's will really depend on budget and what he wants the car to do.
