i must admit I'm greatly bemused/amused at this topic. fccuking about with the size of the plate & now even making number holes in the damn thing & decating has raised its head now crazy now I'm sure you all have reasons for this but at the end of the day is it really worth all the hassle at the risk of getting pulled by the feds copespecially when other things may be inspected as well & at a guess if your messing about with a number/plate goodness knows what else that the feds may be interested in wink just a guess mind you wink

I'm an old git & happy with it,most of the time

Just to let you know that if you get caught with this then it would be a lot worse than having a small number plate. It would be classed as not having a number plate at all! If the plate does not have any digits at all they will not be picked up by ANPR and you will get pulled every time. Even if the cop doesn't notice the plate - the ANPR will not be fooled.

Why raise decats? This is a thread about reg plates. rolleyes

If your really need to get increase air flow into the FMIC that much then I would suggest a better/custom front bumper would be the way to achieve it not cutting tiny holes into the reg plate.

thats rite it is about plates..i didnt realise you wasn't allowed to make a an opinion about things on a car being different or a possible MOT failure..as for changing the front bumper some people just wanna keep the stealth look..if you saw the type of plate i was talking about you would see it looks plain and standard..its reflective and the only way to see the difference was if you put your finger through it..
but hey ho..horse to water and all that.. rolleyes

There are 100's of things that are MOT failures but most of them are easy to spot by the plod unlike reg plates. Plates is an easy reason for them to pull you and have a closer look.....

Fair enough, so do I but I see no need to cut holes in my reg plates.

that particular plate was the 1st prototype..the white bars are now black and invisible until touched..
maybe something for a track day or at the pod then for when you wanna drive there and drive home..

Just checked old pic's of my car and I actually ran about with NO front number plate at all from 2006-2007 and didn't get pulled once. Had the plate in the boot just in case.
I then Put a Motornike size front plate on and drove it around for about 10 months before being pulled.

I've put the standard number plate back on and I think it looks rubbish, but I can;t be doing with being pulled over.

So yes IMO it does look better with a small plate but you can;t winge when you get a ticket for it.

It's just another thing that has the potential to show a bit of individuality, or something that is merely a plate and not something to be messed with. Two schools of thought. However, I put Italian pressed steel plates on mine (and is a personalised plate), love the subtle difference they make. Was thinking about the slightly smaller Italian plates you can get, think they look better, but seeing as my last ones passed an MOT will probably err on the side of caution...

I would tend to agree with Jim.

There may be 2 schools of thought but one is legal and the other is a great way to attract the Fuzz.

yes.... to the standard SMIC, however not designed to work with a FMIC.

Woody, i really like the thinking behind those plates. i quite like the finished products too.
