Just wondering if anyone had any ideas.
It looks as though im not going to be able to get another coupe after the accident i was in last week (see related chat) I was not at fault in any way but my car ended up being wrote off. Even though im not to blame when ive been ringing up for quotes and doing them online there coming out massive.
I've made it very clear that i was not at fault but the fact i was even involved in an accident seems to of trippled my premium even in the best case scenario making it that high theres no way i can afford it \:\(

Are the quotes on a 20VT? if so try a 20V na might be a bit cheaper for you that way you can still have a coupe

Ring up the like's of greenlight, adrian flux and noel dazely. You will be suprised in the difference to online quotes. Confused.com, best quote £1400, adrian flux, best quote so far £614. Hope this helps. Always ring you can haggle a bit ;\)

Well i cant afford over 1000 for insurance...
Based on a 20v turbo i just rang Adrian Flux have said 1700 tpft or over 2000 fully comp.
When i got my insurance on my baby last year it was just over 800 fully comp with all the trimmings.
Greenlight arent open now i just tried them.
Think the problem may be that im only 22
Seems so god dam unfair that i was completely not to blame but still get that kind of hike \:\(
Thanks for the help guys but it looks like a no no...

Chris

You do realise that you are driving a car that is in a very high insurance group don't you, if you were to buy say a Fiesta it wouldn't be that much. You choose to drive the fiat therefore you are accepting to pay higher premiums, if you can't afford it, don't drive one!

Its really not that hard to work out!

hillbilly - you need to wait until the claim is resolved. Until fault is confirmed as the other party's, you will get hammered as you have a pending claim against you. Now if the other driver wasn't insured, you are unfortunately stuffed \:\( But you could try the Motor Insurers Bureau http://www.mib.org.uk/Default.htm

Jimo,
Hope this wasent aimed at me, i always wanted a 20vt Coupe and fully accepted the running costs, insurance etc. I worked hard and built my way up to it and thought the insurance was reasonable at 800 pounds when i got the policy in September. If i was bothered about such things then id of got a 1.3 Fiesta and been perfectly happy.
I was only hoping for some advice or guidence in ways i could get my premium back down to a level i could afford. And id like to point out again that i was not at fault for the accident.

Cheers
Chris

Vickster,
Oh ok i understand what your saying. I hope it is resolved quickly. The police have been able to trace a registration for the vehicle that caused the accident despite him running off. Fingers crossed it may be possible then when the dust has settled...

Cheers
Chris

vickster speaks sense, emm's fault took ages to resolve even though it was open and shut case. she found it difficult getting getting any reasonable quotes till the matter was resolved

regardless of the fact it wasn't your fault, they still put you up in the risk category...purly on the basis you have been in one (unfair i know)

hang fire a month or so, and ditch the on-line quotes, there generally not that competitive any more

yea course, bare mods but state its standard.
and yea i no its a high insurence group bit i think 12000 from tesco is more than i think a 26 yearold man with no pionts and convictions,2500 what i got quoted before is a joke and they wouldnt let me swap from my old car

Hillbilly,

If nothing else, what about a 16VT / NA?

Most of the plus points, but I found mine 20 per cent cheaper to insure than any of the 20v ones.

Worth considering if you quotes don't go down again..

Think im tempted to go back to Bravo land...
I'd miss the wail of that 5 pot to much \:D
I did look at insurance on the 16vt today after everyone posted but to be honest it still was very high.
I got a quote for a 147 HGT Bravo down to 800 so thats looking likely. And if the turbo lump was accidentally drop in there then hmm...theres a subframe and suspension already in my shed...and the engine out of the one involved in the accident is absolutly perfect.....the brain ticks.

And you wouldn't be insured if you did not declare the mods.

16VT and X1/9 1500

We must all do our part for the planet.
I unplugged a row of electric cars that nobody was using.

sorry to hear about this new problem hillbilly, will your current insurer not insure you for another car and that's why you've been ringing around, or is it that they've quoted you too high?

In all fairness, if they can't catch the guy that hit you I'm afraid that it will be your insurer that pays out for your damages, hence you will lose your no claims discount and will be listed as having an accident on the insurance database... unfair I know, but that's how the system works. I agree though, insurance prices seem to have gone through the roof \:mad\:

There has been some luck in tracking down the van that caused it all, the police have been really good studying CCTV and such. However even with the other guy being traced...and everything recovered from his side the insurance still goes through the roof. I dont understand.
So now i am a Bravo HGT owner once more..725 quid fully comp..with everything declared. Whereas a coupe 20vt was 1600 minimum...insanity.

O well.

mate, ive had the same problem, somone wrote off my old car last january, cost me loads to insure the coupe as the claim was still unresolved last summer.
is there any personal injury claims going on from either side? if not it shouldnmt take too long like only a couple of monthes. if there is a claim it could be going on for ages. mines still going and its just over a year!! best thing to do is buy a cheaper run around until then unless you wanna pay the cost. insurance should drop once resolved in your favour. best of luck!

Insurance is the most unfair business in the world, they shouldnt be allowed to ask you things which have NO relevancy to your specific case but which they can use to stereotype you with.
