321 is best grade for manifold but not for that price. When the external WG option is made i may pay extra for 321 grade ;\)

You are possibly correct but to over spec and over engineer makes things over priced! 304 grade has been more than good enough and proven so to use a different material seems the wrong thing to do. I would change design and or materials if required but I'm not so sure it is worth it.

Please don't bank on me doing the external wastegate, I really don't want to get into doing them as i said earlier. So many people want so many options... easy enough to add on yourself and have something that is right for you.

The other most important issue for me is time, i'm currently at work and will possibly be working till early hours before starting again at 7am.. this weekend was taken up doing jobs for other people and my own passion (Integrale) is still awaiting me to install the engine.

Good, I can't imagine too many people wanting that. As for the heat shield, I knew it would not fit, but the reason it's there is to protect mainly the wiring and hoses, the wiring can become brittle. How shiny will the shiny manifold stay once in use? Any pics of your 16vt manifold once it's been used a while?

I'll be able to fabricate a heat shield - depending on how hard a job this is I could also do them for others.

You can also buy heat shielding tubing for the wiring if need be.

regarding the heat generated i really don't see any issue whatsoever TBH. Nice job on your manifold, does the manifold give quicker spool over standard?
Paul

Hi Paul, actually it didn't \:o , you actually feel the difference at high rpm's were it becomes more agressive, at least with my manifold design, hope to ear a reply from your design.. I was also with the hope that it would give me quicker spool but it didn't, but it's definitely worth the money! Good Job!

If you need pics of my modified water rail please feel free to ask, tested it over the last 2 months with no problems... Regards!

Yes that would be good, I have some ideas for the water rail but it would be good to see one done.

Actually I have to disagree. Anybody who is actually buying a tublar manifold should know that the tubular and standard type should both flow well but it’s at higher rpm when you see the real difference, there is a threshold point in which the tubular design takes over. So for those that have forged internals and haven't brought their turbos yet the external wastegate option would be a very sensible choice as boost creep is a problem on GT2871R & GT30R when internal WG is fitted. I can think of at least five people who will go for an external WG option as there is no argument that it is a far superior setup however for those running GT28R, RSR & RS then there is no real reason for this. It would be wise to offer two manifolds one with and one without ;\)

Hey, we can just cut it off if we don't want it! ;\) Fair enough, I concede that many people willing to shell out for the shiny tubular manifold will already have spent serious money on other stuff too to get to 400-500 bhp...

Sorry but things are going slowly, I have the new manifold but hate the collector so some redesign is required... really need the front three pipes to splice into each other which will improve things alot.

Please add me to the list. My manifold and exhaust are both blowing. I have just bought a second hand manifold from ebay, which was supposedly crack free. It took me about 10 seconds to spot a hairline crack when I unpacked it! I could really do without the aggravation!

Sorry to say things are moving slowly at the moment because i'm changing my design.. The first off has arrived and I hate it, so back to the drawing board... Expect i'll have some more pics and info within a couple of months.

Sorry to dangle the carrot but I want to get it right before producing the first batch.

fcck2000: How long is a primary pipe on the tubular manifold?

How much longer is a primary pipe on the tubular manifold compared to the original manifold?

Once I finalise the design I'll let you know how long the pipes are, although I think it's irelivent on a turbo car.. The standard ones vary and I do not have one so you need to measure them yourself.

I just know that you should keep them as short as possible. I checked out an original one and number 1 is mighty long. When do you think you will be ready?

Just a quick update to keep this thread alive :-)

When it stops raining I will be adjusting the manifold I have ready to produce another prototype.. Just letting everyone know I'm still doing them but things have slowed up because I'm trying to get my own car on the road, so I don't get soaked on my C90 every morning LOL

Any news? my manifold is leakin when cold and i dont want to fork out for a new one or having it welded if im going to replace it with one of these...but obviously can't keep waiting as it will only get worse.

just another quick update...
Managed to fit the engine back into my car, made and installed a new wiring loom so with any luck I might get the thing back on 4 wheels within the next couple of weeks :-)

So the update is.. I'll be back on the 20vt manifolds within about 3 weeks ;\)

Cheers
