Dear Sir/Madam,
I am interested in purchasing this vehicle ,it suits my requirements perfectly,I run two garages ,one in Dublin and the other in the Netherlands, i shuffle most of my time between the two .
THESE ARE MY TERMS OF TRANSACTION IF CAR IS EXACTLY AS STATED IN ADVERT: 1) I AM OKAY WITH THE STATED PRICE.

2) I WILL BE PAYING WITH A BANKER'S DRAFT / CHEQUE WHICH I WILL ALLOW TO CLEAR BEFORE THE PICKUP/SHIPMENT OF THE CAR.

3) I WILL INCLUDE FEES FOR SHIPMENT IN PAYMENT, THIS MY SHIPPING AGENCY WILL USE FOR PICK-UP.

The excess funds will go towards covering costs for shipping, shippers fees, insurance, tax and any other expenses that might be incurred getting it down to the new owner. I will want you to get in touch with the following details if my terms are okay: FULL NAME............................

That sounds like a classic scam. I have had similar.

What happens is, the cheque appears to have cleared on the cash machine/internet banking, then you release the car, then after the bank calls to say in fact the cheque hasn't cleared as it was a forgery, and you have let the car go.

It'll be Nigerians. I have had the same when selling my house in France. Don't have anything to do with them.

Since its what you want to hear, YES \:D

"Wow what a fantastic offer, thanks, surely its too good to be true?!?""

Alternative you could play them at their own game and collate some sentence in broken Nigerian then run it through a thesaurus about eleventy billion times and see if they fall for it.

I never add my email address - just go with a phone number - they don't bother calling from Nigeria

Tell them that the car has since been in a bad accident, and is damaged beyond repair, and see if they still want it.

I bet they do... \:D

Def scam - it happens with lots of items, cars, prams beds etc... you take the money, overpaid, the bank tells you the money has reached your account, you send the item and the overpaid amount only to then find that the payment has been stopped and doesnt clear - too late!

(thats roughly how it works)

Dont go near it, 1000 other people will have had the same message - report it.

Oh and if 'Western Union' and 'wire' etc... are mentioned just delete it!

I had this with my previous car, it was worth 8k at the time, i had an email when i was trying to sell it through autotrader, exactly the same sort of email you got but offering 10k and extra for shipping fees, some business bloke would pay the money into my account then someone would come and pick it up, at first i couldnt believe it i ws shocked and was tempted then knew it was too good to be true, so i started playing a game with them, and they didnt email anymore. It is something to do with nigerians, i think. Glad i knew it was a scam coz quite alot of people have fallen for it and lost loads.

I think that cheques can bounce up to 6 months after the funds have cleared. Seems a stupid system, but there you go.

If I were you if I had the slightest reservations about the legitamecy of a buyer I'd tell 'em to get on their bike.
