i have just been offered the following for 1K by a guy at work

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/614269.htm

is it me or is that insanely cheap for a specialist looked after car?

if i buy it, it would be on the sole point of selling my coupe and the money paying for my rewiring.

is a W reg dark red plus with brand new rear tyres with 72K on the clock (warranty replacment engine, clutch and turbo @ 40k - oil pipe cooler failure apparently) liekly to fetch 5k in the current high fuel prices climate?

will need a cambelt next service i expect, last one at 40odd K with the new engine in september 04.

I would say that unfortunately given the need for £400+ spending, you are unlikely to get £5k privately \:\( But who knows, if there is someone put there looking for that car, you could get lucky!

I'd call SoloItalia and see what they'd give you, they'll try to sell it for 6k+ so may give ~5k? \:\)

Borrow the money for the rewiring and keep the coupe would be my choice!

cheers vic, i may just pass then, seems a shame though, 1k for that alpha seems a steal, esp as the owner gives his cars a lot of tlc apparently

I reckon you are asking for trouble buying an Alfa \:D

I reckon a plus will be going for something like 5k in good condition and your one is low mileage as well.

Knock off £400 for the belt change and it should sell. So todays price is £4600.

Or you could do the sensible thing and

A) remortgage and stick the cash on the top of your mortgage for the rewire
B) not rewire your house

B sounds sensible to me.

It will use a fair bit more fuel than the Coupe, so on that note taking into account the rising cost of fuel, i would give it a miss!

The Alfa's are great, but that particular one doesn't have a sportpack. The non sportpack V6 handles like a soggy sofa.
I have owned 2 V6 156's (sportpack versions) and the fuel consumption was similar to the Coupe, but they are quite a bit slower, and need revving to go fast.

If that car needs a clutch it will be about £700, and if it needs a waterpump it will need a cambelt job at the same time. I couldn't see on the advert any mention of them being done.

They are a bit like the Coupe in that if you get a bad one it will cost a fortune, but a good one will generally be reliable.

I do love my Alfa's.

So even being an Alfa, on most days it should be able to go for 26 and a bit miles without breaking down \:D
