that look truely horrible. it really annoys me when manufacture bring out mew models that really kill the old models name.

i just hope they do what nissan did with the skyline, they killed the image witht the G35 'skyline' but the more then made up with the new GTR

Is it based on the new Bravo platform? Because if it is, I find it incredible that from the same platform, they can make a gorgeous looking 5 door (Bravo), and this wierd lumpy snout faced mess (Delta).

It's a shame, as this is unlikely to herald the great return of Lancia to the UK.

This car will bury Lancia forever (and probably any hope of a new coupe as this was looking to be released under the Lancia brand name).

Ugliest car i've seen in long time. What i dont understand is that the Grande Punto is a great looking car and surely would be an ideal platform for a Delta 'esc car. Whack AWD in it, a turbocharged 4 pot, lower and stiffen the suspension and evuila!

Well, I think you could describe the looks as challenging. Personally, I hate it but there are an awful lot of ugly cars on the road so someone's buying them.
The best you could say about it is that's it's distinctive and not a bland eurobox.
Won't be saving up for one which is a real pity as this is an opportunity missed.

On the plus side it isn't as ugly as the new Laguna. This is what happens when big car companies take the styling back in house instead of farming it out to the chaps in Turin and Milan

The current crop of Peugots with the underbites are pretty awful too

though i suppose you could buy one, swap the engine and all ancillaries for the old intergrale evo one, then re-shell it with a old delta intergrale evo shell and it would be quite nice \:D

seriously though, they should have just re-released the old one, with a new dashboard layout or something.....

Yeah, take the old style Delta shell, fully galvanise it and fit a more modern interior. Next fit an updated design engine and running gear.

Job done! \:D

I'll wait to see one in the flesh before slating it, would look good in red with flared arches!

Just to revive this - caught the Ad the other night for the now Chrysler Delta. I actually quite liked it when I saw it at the Classic Car show at the NEC on the Lancia club stand a few years ago. I'd even be tempted 2nd hand as they'll go the usual 'few years old Chrysler' price dive route along with a set of Lancia badges.....

Just come back from a couple of weeks in Italy and Lancias seem to be selling well. Lancia is positioned as the luxury brand (FIAT =affordable, Alfa=sporty) so it is not surprising that the Lancias of today are not rally cars without the sponsorship stickers. The current equivalent in the FIAT family to the boxy Delta of the 80s is really the AR Giulietta, which is a great looking car.

From your post Nello, am I right in assuming that the UK is one of the markets to which Lancia is returning under the Chrysler brand?

Its the only market Neil! Lancia had tooled the car up for RHD for a full return when the economic downturn hit. The brand suffered terribly with the corrosion issues in the 70's/80's and has not returned since. For some reason the Fiat execs think its a wiser move to sell the car here as a Chrysler?! crazy I like it

Like Neil, I've recently returned from a couple of weeks in Italy and saw loads of Lancias. Each and every one of them Ug as Fug.

They seem to be in some styling black hole from which they can't escape.

I saw one of these on the french motorway, in a hybrid black and white (well, maybe cream) colour scheme. From the back it looked fantastic - the colour scheme was perhaps very important in that, though. As for the front, my parents taught me that if I've got nothing nice to say...

I saw a few Lancia versions of the Fiat Idea, which was better looking than the Fiat version. Not a very big statement.

That'll be the Musa ....

I've already found one UK independant that are starting a Badge-swap offering for the Chrysler version..

I know I'm in a minority but I really like the new Delta. It looks far better in the metal. Quirky, yes, but some Lancias always were and I wouldn't have it any other way. In black they look really good. Just a shame they're coming with a Chrysler badge on now. Lets face it, the Coupe does have the odd challenging angle and some people just find it plain ugly.

Fair play to you. I would certainly like to see Lancias back - even if the V5 will probably say Chrysler. The badge engineering really worries me, though. The last company to do it in a big way was British Leyland. Oh dear.

Looking at the brochure the one I saw must have been Nadir Pearl / Gloss black, but I remember it being lighter than the photo.

IMHO doesn't matter so much what the badge says - it was designed as a Lancia and built as a Lancia

I've got the Chrysler Delta brochure and strangely enough it looks so similar to the Lancia Delta brochure my father picked up in Italy last year - so even the brochure is Lancia

Only hoping now that the Chrylser dealers (many of who are also Mercedes dealers from their last tie up) are better than Fiat dealers would be at selling Lancia cars

I don't know if we have a Chrysler dealer nearby but I will be looking in to it. The Delta styling can only be Italian to me and really could only be a Lancia and that is what I like about it. Apart from a subtle change to the grille and a badge change it is all Lancia. It even has multi-air engines. I'm sure there will be a rebadge kit available soon. Let me know your thoughts having looked at it properly.

Just to update this with our recent new addition laugh

Its a 2 year old SR - one down from the top of the range with most of the kit on. Not the most engaging drivers car but I love the look, its very comfortable, economic (MultiAir) and I never see another - especially as I have correctly branded it back to a Lancia cool
You would not believe how many comments / people stopping to ask me about Lancia etc. that I have had.......

Oh - and I paid less than half the new price for an as new car. Fiat really missed a trick - The Lancia brand is back to being cool IMO especially since that Top Gear piece. I know the car has been slated with many comments because it bears the Delta badge - however this is really a throw back to the original Lancia theme of discreet, luxurious, stylish cars for the connoisseur smile
