Fiat Coupe 16VT, 38 years old, LE bodykit+Plus Alloys+Dump Valve, 2 years NCB, 3 points, 1 accident last year (my fault). Was with Noel Dazely last year, and was expecting an increase in premium as i had an accident. Wasn't expecting to pay double though, £850! They did say to get back to them and they would get me an improved offer, but would take up to 10 days. Deciding that was too long, went on Moneysupermarket.com, and found a quote 300 quid cheaper from Adrian Flux. Naturally, i signed up. The kicker though, is that i got an offer from Admiral that was even cheaper, £430, which is LESS than what i was paying last year BEFORE my accident! Unfortunately, Admiral don't cover Dump Valves, so think twice the next time you think about installing one...:P

My car makes that noise but only get to hear it on d/c's. No power gains, so what kind of mod would it be to an insurance company?

I had this argument with them several times over. Let me have a chip, exhaust, intake mods but a different dump valve oooooohhhhhh nnnnooooooooo!!! They said they would not cover a car with a dump valve fitted to which I replied well its already got one, fiat fitted it at the factory. They said they would look into it but that it may mean they couldn't cover me anymore!!! Idiots It still amazes me how little insurance companies know about cars, I'm scared to mention the small dent in my passenger door, just in case they claim its a modification.
Ex 20v (great car) Ex 20vt (RIP) Ex 20vt+ Now another 20vt+

just put a Forge DV006 on the car and dont tell them - the valve comes in matt black and is pretty discreet. It is not a styling or power mod etc.

Although not legally correct, there is no way a claims assessor is gonna check which DV u have. Although by saying "no way" does Ross actually represent the forum or himself and your home is at risk if you do not keep up with payments!!!! If they wanted to be a real pain and do their job properly, it would void your insurance, so its a risk... I am firm believer of if you don't want to pay for it, then don't do it!

That's so stupid. Most turbo cars should have dump valves. I'm guessing people who have after market DVs on their car crash more. Tell them its got a BOV and not a DV and see if they change the quote If you replace a part of a car with one that gives the same performance as the old part (for example if the OEM part is out of production) would you need to tell them i wonder. The OEM DV still goes "Pssst" if you have a induction kit

Insurance comanies are in business to make money, if they can find a way to turn your claim down they will.
You can try and be clever, and might get away with it all the way through your life. Then again you may be involved in a truly terrible accident, where there are massive claims. Not the best of times to discover then your few pounds saving for not declaring has just left you with no insurance.
The fact remains to lie is fraud, so do so at your own risk.

In my experience insurance companies will not always refuse to pay out if incorrect details are supplied.
My friend got his M3 stuck in the floods last summer, he had supplied the insurance company with incorrect dates with regards to a previous disqualification (totally unintentially). It needed a £25000 repair, they agreed to do it as long as he paid something like £1500 to cover the extra premium that he should have paid if the correct details had been supplied (for that term and the previous year).
I'm not suggesting for one moment anyone should lie, but if you do get caught out (by an innocent mistake or other) it's not always the end of the world.
There seem to be a lot of people on here who are unsure if there new Coupe has a chip or not, I'm sure that this is never declared to the insurance company.
