Its not just that the rear speakers are crap but the fact that they are mounted to the rear card rather than the bodywork. If you mount any speaker to a solid mounting point it makes a world of difference \:\)

Oh yes and I would not call the standard Clarion a quality stereo. Thought it was ok till I fitted a new Sony unit (not noted for sound quality) and it blew the old Clarion away

I'm completely out of touch with what is hot in the world of ICE these days, although I know Alpine are still highly recommended for head units.

I take it that Blaupunkt aren't that hot these days \:\?

OK Mr. May, please please please tell me how the whole in car PC install story.

I have had an idea along those lines for a long time, but no idea how to achieve it. You're screen install looks superb, I kept thinking of utting / mounting the screen at the top where the vents are, but I kept thinking "must be a better way" not to mention where the actual PC is and how you get the amp to remote switch on and oohhh soooo many questions....

Brian,

I'm also in the process of putting a car PC in my dash.

I will post pics if anyones is interested and I don't want to hi-jack this post.

My touchscreen is mounted at the top of the centre console but was wondering what you did with the headunit??

also I have some touch screen software (MediaCar) with a nice Fiat layout and very easy to use if you fancy it I will send it to you.

feel free to ask any questions.

I install carpcs in my (not so) free time, so I hope I can help you.

I installed the screen a little bit low, but I'd rather have it there then spoil the top of the centre console with that classy pininfarina badge. I've tested 3 other solutions before: a homemade indash screen (when there weren't still any vga indash screens around), an indash where the radio normaly is and an indash where the ashtray normaly is.

The pc is under the boot's false floor, I have no head unit, all sound goes directly from an hda xplosion sound card to the amplifier by means of an optical cable

as for software I use Centrafuse 1.47 with a moded skin for fiat (just "FIAT" at the centre of the screen really)

Anyway, when I have the time I'll write a topic with lots of pictures, on my install...I hope that happens by the end of the month

Agree with the comments on the standard head unit. I upgraded from a sony head unit to an alpine and the difference is incredible.

Dont know if the speakers are standard in my car but the sound has got 10x better in my opinion.
