Hi guys,

I've always loved fiat coupes, but i couldnt have one as my first car, so got a mk2 punto, been driving a year now, got ncb etc making coupe more possible insurance wise.

Been offered a 2l 16v turbo for £700. Cambelt snapped whilst driving. Is it going to be too much hassle and hard work to get it back working?

Any thoughts greatly appreciated
Thanks
Emma

Yes, the engine is knackered. Spend double and buy one that works \:\)

Agreed - there are cars that run for not much more...Note - coupes are not cheap to run - if you cannot afford more than that for the purchase price, you won't be able to run it properly unless you happen to be a mechanic. General advice is to budget on spending a grand a year on maintenance for a cheap turbo coupe

It looks the beautiful and very cheap for such a nice car.
A good place to start in coupe world.

Thanks for all the replies. I would pay £500 at most for it. Money isn't much of an issue, thought this car would be a nice project, im pretty handy with engines and my mate owns a garage, says I can store it there and work on it there, so I'd have tools, ramps etc.

Also I know the seller and he claims it was about 230bhp when running, gonna talk to him about it and look at it this afternoon.

If you think this wouldnt be a fun project, I will just buy a good one straight up.

Again, thanks for the replies \:\)

its a engen out and in jobbby surly. is it worth your time? buy the time you got another engen in it, done the belts and clutch while its out. the cost and the time, you may as well have gone and got a working one

that said i suppose it would be a great way to get to know your car, and a hell of a learning curve. i don't however think it makes financial sense

Also it won't be 230BHP when you get it because you will have a different engine in.

Right, had a look at it today. The seller is a guy who works with my boyfriend, so let me have the keys and i could look around it on my own.

It is in pretty good condition, but i felt like something was dodgy, the guy said he bought it 2 weeks ago for £1400.
When i was in the car, found a piece of paper in log book saying "sold as seen £725" signed by the new owner. So I think that means theres something else wrong with it, coz a fully working 16vt wouldnt go for £725 would it?

And you are all right, too much work, too much to learn all in one go. I will just look for a good running one.

Also its the first one ive had a proper look around in, and they are great cars, makes me want one even more, so I hope you all dont mind, but im gonna stay lurking about on the forum asking more stupid questions

Thanks again for your advice \:\)
