Ive just had an incident with my spacers. The bolts mustnt have been tightened up properly by the bodyshop although he did tell me he noticed there was not much thread holding the wheels on. I drove about 2 miles from the bodyshop when a big vibration started coming from the passanger side. Stopped and checked and the wheel was loose. Tightened it up and went on my way to leave the car at mechanics. He has since had the wheels of to fit the 3G brakes and Pagid pads from the Group Buys. He said that the small lip on the spacer is now damaged. So just be careful, any loud noises and vibrations stop right away even if on the Motorway, better that than your wheel flying off! Also keep a good wheel brace with you at all times.

cant you purchase longer alloy wheel bolts to try and make the threads stay in the hub better rather than risking the wheel coming loose? i had to purchase some before for my mk1 golf surely there are company's that can get them. Lee

This was with long bolts. Dont know what exactly has happened with it but I got a new hub from a scrapper so putting that on with new long bolts. Hopefully will get it sorted.

Will i need long bolts with my 20mm spacers?
I just have the standard 16" wheels. The car is going to the specialist on monday to have the spacers fitted, and a variety of other things done.
I dont want to come back at the end of the day with them saying they couldnt fit the spacers and the bolts werent long enough.

I'm no wheel spacer expert but I'd say you need bolts that are 20mm longer than the standard ones.

Not from what i can see looking at the spacers, the spacers seem to screw into the the original wheel bolt holes and then u bolt the wheel onto the spacer.
This is why i'm asking, it seems weird that people would have problems and need longer bolts. i'll take a pic of my spacers.

These sound more like hub extensions than spacers (if you know what I mean?). If you're fitting conventional spacers you'll need longer bolts but as you're extending the hub - so to speak - it sounds like you could use standard bolts. Did you get them from the link in your top post?

Heres one of my spacers This is why i dont understand/am worried about the need for longer bolts. On these spacers u just bolt them onto the hub using the bolts provided. Then bolt the wheel onto the spacers. Now with everyone talkig about longer bolts makes me think that i've bought different spacers to everyone else PS there are 8 bolts in that photo as theres another spacer on the other side of the styrofoam

Yeah, forget what I said about longer bolts, these look like the safest way to increase the track width. Make sure the garage torque the plates on correctly and use locking compound if possible - you don't want them to come lose.

ok please tell me what torque the plates means. I have a big list of things i want them to do to the car and as such am gonna give them a little note aswell to mention any special things (like the anti-squeel brake shims that i want them to fit) So if u can tell me what it means i'll add it to my note

ie , do up the bolts that hold the spacer to the hub properly (ie , to the 'correct' torque setting - with a torque wrench).

well.... i hope the term 'specialist' implies that they can do up bolts correctly :P
If not then it'll be him that crashes when he does the road test.

You do realise don't you, how much faster your wheel bearings are likely to wear with such big spacers on? I'll be very surprised if you car is at all lowered, if you don't have problems with rubbing. They will also affect your steering geometry meaning your turning circle will be reduced and you will need your wheel camber adjusting.
The only crticism I might add about the spacers themselves is that be very weary of overtightening the wheel bolts, as they are direct bolt into what looks like alloy. FK do a range of the hub-centric spacers in a full range of sizes which has steel inserts in the alloy spacers to much less chance of you knackering em up. Not expensive either.

Ahh these are all steel spacers. My turning circle is gonna be reduced? is that even possible for the coop? surely that means i can only drive in a straight line The car isnt lowered at the moment, and please tell me more about needing camber adjustments.

Here is a pic of my spacer on its own here a pic fitted here and a pic of how much clearance it give me from the Brembo here . I know you wont have the Brembo problem but will give you an idea of how much extra the wheel sits out.

The wheel bolts don't bolt into the spacer, they go straight through it and bolt into the wheel hub as normal. Therefore it doesn't matter if the spacer is made of alloy or steel as the bolt holes will be smooth not threaded.

me thinks there is a wee bit of confusion about hub-adaptors and spacers.
the hub-adaptor bolts onto the hub , and the wheel bolts onto the adaptor. Different set of bolts.
the spacer is merely a .... spacer ... ie , it sits between the hub and wheel. Same bolts.

If you look at the pic of my spacer on its own you will see there is no where for a bolt to fit, it can only go through it.
