My insurance is due again at the start of May.
I'm 26, got 8 years ncb, live in a OX17 post code with the car parked on the drive.(do about 8k per year)
Also the car has a few mods:
GT28R
3" downpipe
Sports cat
Cat-back system
Boost controller
fmic
Billies
Eibach springs
Strut brace
Le kit
I think thats it.
Last year i paid £513 fully comp with protected ncb.
What do you think get it down to this time ?
I'm trying to aim for about £450, do you think thats realistic ?

With those mods, you'll have limited options - just try ND, Greenlight and AF for starters ;\)

Limited options, for sure. I seem to get less & less reasonable quotes every year.
I'm with AF now, they have always been fairly decent quotes from them.
ND, wouldn't insure me last year with those mods. However i'm a year older, a year wiser.(hopefully they'll see it that way)
I'll have to make a start on the quotes over the weekend.

Remember insurance goes up every year (uninsured drivers, PI claims, more accidents as more traffic, no doubt higher taxes etc etc etc) so even if you benefit from more ncb or whatever, the price may not go down much \:\(

I've noticed a lot more posts of smashed-up coops & people struggling to get a reasonable insurance quotes.
£450 would be good, even if it's the same as last year it's not that bad.

Yes, the risk on a 20vt turbo is very high compared to comparable (or even much more powerful) cars. For example, I could insure a £15k 350bhp SLK 32 for about the same as a £5k plus \:o

About to re-insure my Coop LE - went onto comparethemarket.com to look. I'm 26 with 4 years NCB, car is either on the drive or at my girlfriend's residential parking. Quoted £650 or there abouts - I thought that was good.

Had a quote from Greenlight today, £497 fully comp (all mods declared).
Not a bad start.

ND called me today, £445 at the minute.
They said they'll give me another in a couple of weeks as they think they can get the price down.
Well thats already better than my target price of £450.

So now they are going to send out another renewal.

Got my renewal again from Adrian Flux.
Had premium of £445, then you add on personal accident cover @ £14 & finance charges of £20.
Total £479.
Why send me another quote that still doesn't beat the ND quote ?
I'm going to ring them tomorrow & say if they can renew for £420 there & then i'll take it. If not bye bye Adrian Flux.

Try Elephant or Bell \:\)

Also read this http://www.fiatforum.com/insurance.html and call Chris Knott quoting the FF for price match and potentially 10% off \:\)

well i dont understand this.
im with bell, and iv got 4 years no claims.
but a couple of years ago i had a bump, knock for knock i thought, in a lane.
had bout £400 worth damage to other car and i didnt claim for mine cos it wasnt worth it.
how come iv still got 4 years no claims if the other driver claimed off me?
i cant get other quotes because they ask me about claims and i dont know what to say to them.
bell have this claim on file but say i get my 5th year in october.
can somebody clear this up for me so i can get a better quote please?

You have 4 years no claims clearly because you didn't claim Elephant only ask for claims in the last 3 years, how long ago was it? The Admiral Group (incl Bell, Elephant) load for non fault claims for 3 years - their belief that statistically you are more likely to make a fault claim if you have a non-fault. If the other driver claimed off you, how was it knock for knock, rather than your fault? Normally the other companies have a list of types of claim - I think you would have to say fault, unless they have knock for knock

it was around may ish 2006.
they have it on file but i dont know what type of claim.
im paying around £950 for a 10 month policy, fully comp,on a driveway with alloys and exhaust.
most quotes from other insurers have been stupid.
i know my postcode isnt doing me any favours but im 30 now and been driving 10 years.
just seems like im still paying too much even though bell are cheaper than all my other quotes.

Why not ask them - was Bell the company when you claimed?

Does sound like you are paying a lot, but maybe your postcode isn;t the best? Assume you have tried Greenlight / A Flux / Noel D?

no not tried them.not heard of them before.
iv been with bell for about five or six years on and off.
always used to give me best quotes for xr2, 205 gti, cav sri, ford probe v6, rover coupe e.t.c.compared to the usual lot, tesco, admiral, and the rest.
i moved to oldham 12 months ago and my ins for my rover went up from about 500 to 700!bad area not far from here.
now iv got my coop and its gone up a couple of hundred.
so are adrian flux and the others u mentioned good for coops?

I can recommend Adrian Flux. When I first bought the coop I was with Frizzel through the Union and they quoted £1100+ \:o

AF got it down to £550 so for some strange reason, I went with them. \:D N.D. were only an extra £20 too, so worth phoning.

AF even got Mrs MABR's quote down from £600 to £315 - result.

I've renewed my insurance with ND this time. £445 fully comp, protected ncb & £250 excess.
It's the same price as what i managed to get AD down to, but i really wasn't happy with that renewal quote of £581 they sent originally.
So sod'em i thought.

Dear friends,

Dalston, Carlisle. Dateline: November 16th 2005. Adrian Flux insure my car for £350 fully comp.

August Bank Holiday 2006. Move to Beruit Liverpool. Adrian Flux says to inform them when coupe is in Liverpool as Norwich Union refuse to cover me at my new address. Decide to leave the coupe in local garage secure lock-up until year on NCB is up and inform Flux.

Ten days later letter arrives. Flux have cancelled insurance despite agreeing to wait meaning I've lost ten months NCB as only full 12 month periods count. \:\/

Footman James insure me as Flux wanted £880. Footman insure me for £650 fc. High but understandable due to shakey post code.

Fast forward to November last. Saab 9000 2.3t takes over NCB of coupe as need cruiser for job hunting. £750 fc. Favourable rate would be forthcoming as 'mirrored deal' offered. How much for two cars with FJ? £750 for Saab, £880 for coupe!
Argue, argue, argue. Cajole, argue - no chance. \:mad\:

New season arrives. Three years' NCB. License has just 3 points. Locked, alarmed garage. Clifford 650 alarm. Minefields, machine gun towers, regular overflights of Commanche gunships and two divisions of SAS and US Rangers plus a coterie of heavily armed Ninjas..........
Unable to insure due to postcode indicating less than two miles from Croxteth.

Can cancel insurance from Saab to put onto coupe but with no MOT and tax difficult to arrange so no Brooklands, Bristol etc. °\(

Dateline: Saturday 10th May 2008. 23:00pm. New search portal claiming 98% UK insurance market coverage.
Two quotes: one from INsure, one from Kwik-fit.
INsure is £638 and Kwik-fit £575.

Monday 12th 9:30am. Ring KF. Idiot savant on end of phone says 'quote' is just a guide price. \:mad\:
Why bother? Real quote, when I've declared my chrome wheels, £1,273.
Thank the chump profusely for wasting my time and phone a company called Connect who's aussie contact says they can help.

First call is a forgettable mouthbreathing troglodytic female who repeatedly asks me which version of my coupe I have. 20valve 2.0litre I say. She says "Is it the two-door or the four-door?". After four slow and deliberate explanations of how my coupe was only built with two doors as were all others, and having listened to her subsequently repeat her question and resolving not to find out her address and use her headphone cord as a ligature, I hang up. \:\(
Ten minutes later I get Mister Australia from Connect asking me how well I fared.

Unfortunately, to my eternal regret, I told him.

Breath deeply: chill, chill, chill.

After three vallium tabs kick in he phones back. Try Swinton, he says.

Guy at Swinton recognises he has a very deeply disturbed person on the line. Speaks very slowly and gently as if he can see my trusty chrome-plated Remington 9mm pressed against my temple.
Can I wait for 10 minutes while he finds a quote?
I reply in the affirmative, clicking my toenail clippers near to the mouthpiece. He scuttles off.

True to his word he returns 10 minutes later.

Fully comp, £500 excess, £60 glass excess - £211 via Chaucer as a classic. If only 1,500 miles they offer £191.

Cue sound of limb being torn from socket.

Now all I have to do is repeat the last 3 months trials next year.

Knitting spaghetti would be a simple affair to this ......................
