It also won't cover anybody test driving the car - they need to have their own insurance cover.
If you desperately want to tax it then I'd suggest insuring with somebody such as
H&R insurance. Almost all of their policies have a pro rata cancellation rate, so you could insure the car, stick on 6 months tax and then cancel and it would only cost you a £20 admin fee plus a few days insurance. It's a bit cheeky, but might be easiest.
