Has anyone successfully installed a pop out 7" screen headunit in the coupe yet?

I thought about it but always seems to be something in the way of the screen which would give it a downwards angle to it.

Someone has been in contact with myself, with a screen that should come out far enough to clear the console.

I should be getting one fitted in jan/feb. So will take it from there.

I thought there was an issue with the screen going in and out when the car was in 1st, 3rd or 5th.

there is a bit but if left in 2nd or nu its fine, I could fit it easy matey, but you do have to modify slightley, it’s the same principle as fitting any motorized unit i.e. an alpine cda 7998r head unit

Presumably one of these is needed for when Ross is in the doghouse with the misses and has to leave the house for a bit he can still watch the end of the footy?

I'd really hate not being able to watch a dvd when I'm in 1st third or fifth.....

Well presumably if it is a realy good film and you don't want to miss a second then just drive everywhere in reverse.

I find that listing to music with my eyes closed helps to get rid of the distraction of having a screen infront of you....

Will it still play music if you rip off the screen and use it as a complimentary frisbee?

Just a thought, would it not save a lot of awkward looking angle/fitting worries/gear leaver worries if you put it in the top vents??

I know that you'd loose the vents but loads seem to do that anyway!

IIRC to fit a stereo in the top vents is bit of a pain in the arse as the dash needs to be removed a a section of metal needs to be removed

i'll see if i can find the thread....

You can get mp3 on most head units Ross - isn't 800 mb enough on one disc?

ross i had my kenwood dvd player in my last car, it was a 7" touch screen with mp3 compatibility and it was fantaistic, but......

what you have got to remember is that the player will have to scan the disc every time you start your car,

now with an mp3 cd thats the equivelant of 800mb when full which takes around a minute or so, but with an mp3 dvd thats 4gb when full, now that takes around 5min+ just to scan the disc before you can listen to or even search for your favourite track \:o my car does not even run for that long on some journeys!

my advise would be to stick to cd mp3, or go with the touch screen tv but try and get a carputor or hard drive to store the music for instant access. trust me it will pi55 you off after a short while.

i ended up buying a 10 disc MP3 cd changer to go with the headunit and that was more than suffice \:D

on a different note, is the recess for the stereo not be a problem for the flip out screen? i still have stereo but have read alot about them not fitting so havent bothered trying.

Right Ross since your car seems to nearly always be in as many pieces as Pinin's i reckon you should just go fot it and rid the dash of its centre vents and put it in there.

Then cover the DIN slot at the bottom and put your gauges AVCR, turbo timer etc in there, you know it makes sense!

Less than £100 is got to be cheap, dont know the make.

"safe mode - connects to car handbrake" so in a Coupe that will man the screen is on all the time, or won't work when it's icy outside ;\)

If you wanted to go to Halfrauds then they have this touchscreen 7" only £249.99 (it was £199.99 before xmas)

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/store...ategoryId_79351

I'm mounting mine in the centre at the top where the heaters used to be.

I did start ages ago with a whole new centre console cut the entire centre section out down to the controls of heaters and fibre glassed a touchscreen monitor into it. Was going to connect it to a Carputer. Its almost finished but lost heart with it as now I can buy a cheap motorised flip out screen with no Carputer in my car for a lot less money and hassle.

If you want I will post pics of the idea i had.

May I know what brand of 3.5" dvd player you are using? I am looking into getting either a 7" pop up or the 3.5".

I decided against the Apline flip out screen as it would be too much messing around for me...

I used to have another car (to ashamed to tell) but I had sunvisor monitors. I thought It would be a good idea but because the 7" LCD screen were thicker than a normal sunvisor they really stick out from the drivers line of view.

Plus not to mention I never used them had a PS2 in the glovebox and only used it once. lol.

I had a 7" screen that had to be adapted to fit into the standard stereo slot, but there was a really bad whine whenever you had the dvd on and the TV reception was crap as you were constantly moving it struggled to receive a strong signal!
I've got a video of it working as my friend and i were pissing about one day and made a 'cribs' video with it in! i'll post a link to it in a bit...

It's a bit of a ball ache but with a bit of time and effort it can be customised!
If you go to youtube and type in 'Fiat Coupe Cribs' there's a really bad video of my coupe with a 7inch Screen and notice how i have to have the gearstick in 2nd to open it out!
