Hi there, I am looking to put the 2ltr 16v Turbo engine in to my Fiat Punto GT, Can you let me what sort of power I can expect to get from the engine if tuned up a bit i.e. Head, Cams, hybrid turbo, engine management, charge cooler etc. I am looking for around 300-350 BHP is this possible with a standard bottom? Any advice would be great, thanks Ben

Bottom end should be fine, the crank is forged as standard and the rods should be capable of 400bhp or so (been told, but dont know of anyone with std rods and this power)
For 300bhp or above i would say you will definatly need forged pistons, group A spesso headgasket (pref with fire rings) and different injectors (std's will be at max duty at 300bhp)
With the spec you have said i would probably expect about 280 - 300bhp

Thanks for your comments, I am looking to go the forged rods and pistons route and have the whole lot blue printed and balanced, best to be on the safe side of things with the amount of money it’s going to cost.
Do know what sort of engine spec I would need to get the output to the 350bhp mark or more?

Higher compression Decent headwork (not a port and polish) Bigger Injectors Bigger Turbo Forged Piston Forged Rods Possibly a new crank C&B Cams Re-mapped ECU or stand alone Full 3" Exhaust FMIC Tubular Manifold Straight Run to Turbo Alloy Radiator Uprated clutch (possibly a paddle of some sort) Lots of new gaskets Group A headgasket 12mm Headbolts (requires block and head drilling out from 10mm to 12mm)
So as you can see it all adds up quite quickly and is the spec im doing for 400-ish bhp although im planning on revving to 8000rpm

what crank do you use if you want to rev over 7000rpm ? i suggest you will not use the original bad designed crank for that rev level ??

The standard crank is not bad at all. Actually, one on the best parts in this engine. I don't see any problem in revving it to 8000rpm.

If anything is going to go/give up at 8000 revs then it would more than likely be a valve and not the crank. Anyone know where I can get a standard forged crank for the 2 litre 4 cylinder turbo Coupe.I want to install one in the bottom of my Alfa 147 turbo engine. Also how much for the crank?Thanks-Pat.

The cranks from a coupe / integrale turbo are forged as standard. I have 2 used ones if its of any interest to you? Or you can buy them brand new with shells from Tanc Barett for about £350-ish

Is there a 2 litre 16 valve 4 cylinder turbo engine or are they all 2 litre 5 cylinders? And have you a number or website for this company tanc barret? Thanks for the info Begbie. Can you P.M me with this info please, thanks. P.S-The cranks you have, are they for a 2 litre 4 cylinder turbo block? Change of plans on this side of the water,Now using a 2 litre Alfa 147/156 block as the base for our new turbo engine.Makes more sense than the 1.8 block in the long run. The 1.8 litre is going back into a Punto HGT race car now.
