Not a silly question at all
They come off exactly the same way as a standard strut would come off the top mount probably even easier as you wont have to use spring compressors.
Wind the spring platform all the way down to the bottom so the springs are loose.
Then its safe to undo the 19mm top nut inside the top mount. The damper will then just pull out of the top mount as a standard one would.
If your replacing the top mounts, make sure the FK bearing race comes out of the old top mount as it may stick in it, oh and its a good time to clean and grease the bearing too
