Just wondering what sort of cost would be involved in getting a 16v or 20v NA and making it run on LPG?

Some time over the next couple of years I want to get a bit of a cheap work horse but i know that i'd just end up driving my original Turbo coop all the time cause of its looks and performance.

So the idea came to me of an NA coop running on LPG, U got all the looks and style and at least some of the performance, coupled with more reliability.

Factor in an engine every 10k miles and the costs add up a bit

for a standard car it should be fine but once you start modding beyond standard i dont think its upto it unless you spend time and money on getting it mapped right( and im still not all the way there....)

Its fine in theory and yes i have saved the money i spent on the conversion and then some, but one blown engine due to mods and lpg fuelling has pushed me back \:\(

To be honest for w rok hack a diesel donk that you can run into the ground should more than do the job and keep the coop for weekends/night time fun \:\)

I'm looking to convert my NA over the next month or so.
I'm trying to get it all in for about £275 by shopping around for second hand bits, then fitting myself, then getting it inspected and certified. It's not necessarily possible on this budget but I am hopeful.

I spend 2 hours in the car each day and it does my head in that I have to leave the Coupe at home because it's too expensive to run.

I'm going for multipoint so I won't need to mess with the air intake and sap the power on petrol.

If it kills the engine an NA engine will cost £150 to replace but my experience has been that LPG makes engines last a lot longer. \:\)

When I tried to convert my old 20v turbo nobody would touch it but that was before Multipoint systems really got a hold.

LPG makes engines last longer????

All my Lt35's use a head gasket every 30k, some manage 50k.
They run too hot on gas. Waaaay too hot.

Well all I have had is a 182,000 mile Mondeo sold running perfectly, and a 152,000 mile Rover running perfectly... but I wish it was an LPG Fiat Coupe.

tbh i have swayed from LPG now, it takes a lot to get it right and im sure some engines just dont like it, like the LT35's \:\(

others i have seen over 250k on them without issue but each onto their own \:\(

You need to adjust your plugs for hotter running as well as if you had modded your coupe and go for single electrode ones too.

I have a dream system fitted but if done right it should last a while. it burns clean but much hotted \:\( good for warming the car up quicker in the winter tough if you start from LPG \:\)

Are you looking to sell your LPG system at all?
Also what size tank did you get? Was it a toroidal one? There are a lot of 60 l ones around at the moment but that seems like it might not fit the recess.

The car will soon be for sale complete \:\) The tank in the boot is a 41litre toroidal one and it sits about half an inch too high in the recess. To be honest your better getting a fake boot floor made up from mdf and getting the biggest tank you can as i got upto 25mpg which would get me upto 190miles.

I suppose a big cylinder just behind the seats is the way to go then.
Was your problem overheating as well? The radiator in the Coupe seems to be a bit small for the job, particularly the aircon one. Maybe a twin fan job on mine would help?
