I'm redoing my installation (new brakes, new suspension and LE kit just screams out for new sound components after less than a year of my last sound upgrade ) what do you guys think of these: Polk-audio db6500 or these DLS PS6 A for the front as for the rear I was thinking of a "low budget" coaxial speaker...something like MB Quart DKE 116 as I can get them for 90€ For the sub, and since I want to install it on the side hole in the trunk, I think a polk-audio mm2104 would be a good choice, not only because it can work on a small enclosure (18.7L) but also it kind of sounds good with 80's rock/metal (my kind of music :)) any tips or feedback??

Polk-audio is gorgeous stuff, although I can't help but feel they are a tad too expensive.
I personally don't think you can go wrong with the likes of Infinity/Focal for speakers.

I regret selling my focal poly's last year when I sold the coop because I now have a car that uses the same size speakers. Seen some Infinity Kappa speakers on the bay which seem rediculously cheap but from what would appear a reputable outfit ? Anyway I couldnt resist so I ordered some. Waiting for them to arrive. Ebay - Infinity Kappa's 16.5cm component speakers If they are new genuine and work then for this money they have to be the No. 1 choice. These are not the cheaper Infinity Reference speakers either. I found the focal tweaters too bright for my tastes, too raspy but the overall sound was very nice. Hope the Infinities live up. Will post back when I have some news.

Some do some dont The reference dont or at least didnt until the 2007 model which is 2.7 ohms. The smaller Kappas components are 4 ohms. Just these 6.5" components are 2 ohms. So I now have a set of Kappas unopened on my desk and in need of a new home. I will enquire about a redund but its going to cost me to send these back and my refund will be - thier postage unless I can convince them they didnt clearly state the impedance on the advert and it implied 4 ohms in the desciption ie "Conventional 4 ohm speaker ....."

All sorted now. They have agreed to take them back (at my cost) and send me a set of In Phase XT6C for an additional £20 inc postage. Thats not bad at all and they are 4 Ohm speakers

I am not well qualified to talk about this but this is my understanding.
Ohms is a measure of resistance. Up until recently I had not heard of 2 ohm speakers. Head Units are typically rated 4 Ohms. You can use any speakers rated 4 ohms and above but not below because 2 ohms speakers will offer less resistence and force the amp in the HU to work extra hard to supply them. Bottom line is it will work for a while but ultimately you risk cooking the amp. Permanent Damage.
I first learned this years ago when I had a HIFI system and wanted to connect 4 speakers to 1 HIFI with Stereo speaker terminals. If you just bung the wires of two speakers in the the terminals of one of the outputs you are lowering the risistance.
IE if you hifi spec quotes the amp can handle 6 ohms and you connect two 8 ohm speakers to the back or each terminal soyou hand 4 speakrs off two outputs then you are running at 4 ohms per channel not 6. This is bad.
What you are doing is running the speakers in parallel. You can of course chain the speakers in series which will double the 8 ohms to 16 ohms which will not do any harm but will double the resistance and make the speakers less efficient.
See ohms law
Ideally you want to match the speakers with the amp, as long as the speakers are eauql or higher than the amp then you are OK. Not the other way round.
Some amps will cut out if they overheat, others will burn out. Not worth the risk.
Do a web search on speakers and impedence and you will see.
I read one bit of advice which tried to explain that 2 ohm speakers are safe for 4 ohms Head Units because of the resistance of the poor wiring in cars between HU and speaker. hmmm I wasnt convinced.
