I now have this dilemma. I have been a miserable B45tard since crashing the coupe. I have worked out that driving an A class diesel to and from work has made it a mundane task rather then an enjoyable one . I was saying I would get a diesel to save on fuel (about £100 pm) But when I said to my wife that I would get bored, and I think I will buy another coupe. She admitted that she has spent the last 3 1/2 years feeling worried ever time I drove to and from work. She says I need to get a slower car, a compromise, so she won't worry so much. Now what do i do PS It didn't help when I wa beaten out right by a 1.6 vectra

Go for V6 power, like a GTA or GTV or GT. Overall not much slower, but due to the power delivery will feel alot slower to your wife, hence not as much worry for her and you still get to keep an italian fast car Seconded. I have a 3.0 GTV and it's a very good substitute for the coupe. The GT or GTA with the 3.0 or 3.2 engine are both great cars

That sounds like a good idea - I'm currently doing my IAM instructor/observer course (having passed the test just over a year ago) - there are groups in Orpington and Bromley (and maybe one even nearer to you). I'll send you details if you like I couldn't recommend it enough - Makes you safer and smoother, but not slower.

Part ex the mrs?? group buy?? how does that work?? I liked my diesel tank as it was good for chomping the miles up super cheap and was soft on long hauls compared to the coop but throw in water and corners and it just was miles away from the coop and you did have to really slow down. i know if i had gone off the road or hit something else it was a heck of wieght and wouldnt be easily pushed out of the way but if i could have a vegie high powered coupe id be super happy but ho hum ill be moving back to veggie power slugging about soon enough. i think the smaller tyres and wheels designed to be economical and last a long while compared to the coupe tyres and wheels.

Send her out on the Death Pillion (TM) courtesy of Rog and his GSXR1000. She will never moan that your car is too fast or dangerous ever again . Sorry if that causes offence Rog. Actually, no I'm not .

BIKE RIDE = answer. End of the day the coupe isnt fast really, and will feel like a milk float after experincing a sports bike.

Sugarbear's spot on. Just drive it differently when the Old Trout's in the car. Simple.

Ditto (except I'd disagree with the old trout comment, the gorgeous love of my life may be watching) I have 3 modes a) Missus and nipper in the car (PSSL are on lowest in this case, edited to say and so are my settings) b) Just missus (PSSL on medium/low setting, no difference really, edited to say but my settings are still down a bit) c) On me tod, drive it like I stole it mode (should conditions prevail as I'm not an idiot)

It's only a Coupe, not a top fuel dragster. Didn't you used to have a hot Zafira - they weren't slow? Did she mind you driving that?

No, can't remember who that is but not me. She has a Pug 106 that apparently needs driving into every junction round town at a speed that requires full braking power at the latest possible moment every single time (whilst I attempt to drill my right foot through the passenger footwell). OK, so I might be exagerating a bit....

Some good pointers. We've been together for 21 years, she nows me to well to get away with sugarbears idea :(. I have the same 3 ways of driving. + 1 extra. with Just kids in the car. I gave a quick sharp blast here and there. they love it and so do their friends. In fact 2 of my daughters friend are quite upset the coupes gone She does still have the Zafira GSI. and she doesn't like me driving it Mind you. found this as a possible replacement http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C01972

Tell her when she gets a 1.6 Zafira and you will get a slower car as to be honest i would say the GSI is more dangerous than a 20vt. All roly poly when you really push it with its higher centre of gravity and being shaped like a deformed brick and all Or say that when she doesnt you worry about driving such a middle age crisis car you will not buy another coupe but untill then heres a blanket, a pillow and a duvet and youll see her in the morning on your way past the couch to get your breakfast
