er, not quite
A REALLY silly bit of info for you...
150,000 miles is 5.9440161648 times round the planet.
The planet has a mean radius of 3959.872468264024 miles, but as a Coupe is 53.1496 inches tall, the roof has been subjected to a greater distance than the floorpan, resulting in the roof having travelled 6 yards and 9 inches further
However, as my Coupe was lowered by 1 inch about 35,000 miles ago.......
Nope, can't be bothered with that bit

er, isn't that mileage on the same block though? IMHO, in the coupe that's what counts all the other stuff are mere consumables
Well done Nigel, mine is on a moderate 180thousand proper stuff (KM) so only 108K miles...

Nope - this is the second lump. Original engine was removed at about 110,000 miles after the oil rings wore and caused LOTS of oil consumption and an embarassing amount of smoke. Performance was still fine though - weird. I then fitted Mavric's original engine (which had done about 45,000 miles), which I took to just over 300bhp, and ran for about 18 months before all the water escaped from a leaky expansion tak cap. Iceberg rebuilt it with a flex-hone to the bore, new forged pistons and gapless rings, plus a Barbz-special cylinder head, C&B cams and a wild turbo. That was in July at 136,000 miles - I've done 14,000 since then

That engine sounds spotty dog... what kind of torque / bhp has it got?

Hmm i wonder if the 355 would have used about the same amount of fuel over the same milage.... A lot of the miles are to PT and back unfortunately but still its coming into the milage im racking up in the months on mine and ill clock up more when the LPG is mapped right

Maybe some kind of mileage top 10 section on the forum is in order. If I still had mine it would have been hitting 130K in a few months - and that's original everything (bar clutch)

Adding to this thread I started at the end of November - another milestone - just turned 160,000
Only 10,000 miles since then, however, the car was off the road at Perfect Touch from mid December until mid January for the mapping problems. It was also off the road at the bodyshop from early February for six weeks.
So, since the end of November, the car has done 10,000 miles in three and a half months on the road. At this rate, I should hit 200,000 by summer next year.

How are all the other bits and pieces coping? Such as battery, alternator, power steering pump, steering rack, wheel bearings etc etc Are they coping with the mileage (if still original)?

Steering, including rack, track rods, power steering pump are all original, as is the alternator, driveshafts, gearchange mech, all engine ancillaries (intake manifold, exhaust manifold [staggeringly] pipework etc). The original battery failed about three months ago. The wheel bearings were replaced at about 100,000 miles. Everything inside the car is original with the exception of the front seats, which I've replaced with much more supportive items from a Hyundai Coupe. All the electrics are original apart from the aircon internal temp sensor and the ECU (which was fine until PTS fried it) Its on its third clutch, with the first one starting to slip at about 90,000 and the (standard) replacement whipped out at 136,000 to make room for something to handle 400bhp. All the solid brake pipes are original (although I've been through rather a lot of front flexi-pipes ) As has been mentioned above, its probably better to do 160,000 miles in a car than 16,000. If it wasn't for my level of tune, many other bits would be original too, such as suspension, gearbox and quite likely the engine too.

As has been mentioned above, its probably better to do 160,000 miles in a car than 16,000. I definitely agree with this. My "first" car was my mums Metro. She had had it from new and I began to drive it as soon as I passed by test at 17. It had about 30,000 on it and the engine was clapped. Burnt oil at a tremendous rate and left embarassing smoke trail wherever I went :o. Are you still on the original oil cooler Nigel? I'm at 110,000 now and I'm wondering how long they last. The pipework is definitely looking a bit "iffy" despite my regular coats of rustcote. Considering its at 3bar pressure most of the time its doing well. James

Maybe regular use and heat keeps it alive (well it's really the pipes that go though, not the cooler itself!) Mine went on the motorway and nearly killed me when doing 150kph it started twitching, car wasn't happy to follow instructions and nearly went off when I tried to slow down. Oil was pissing on the wheel hence no brakes and steering. (engine survived btw)

I think I might get it done jut to be on the safe side. I'm going to be keeping the car for a good while yet so I might as well keep it tip-top.
The cooler matrix itself looks fine but I believe the pipes are VERY hard to remove from the cooler unit and thats why most folks replace both together.
I have been offered a brand new cooler and pipes from a forum member for "278,75eur incl P&P and insured delivery" which is about £195
Does that sound good?

The coolers can last a very long time if they arent hit by anything too big coming thru the ventricle in the bumper but they arent that easy to remove from the pipes so most people replace the pair. if we could ever get hold of a good set of used ones then it would probably be cheaper to get Pirtek or the like to make up some braided ones and coat the in some PVC or the like to act as a sheath against the elements and thus last longer than standard and past most owners ownership of thier coops

I saw Roy Howard and his better half, Tracy, at the weekend. They both own coupes; Roy has a Sprint Blue that has done 194,000 miles. He has owned it since 5,000 miles. It has had one engine re-build early on in it life (15K AFAIK) and has been modded since then. Tracy has a red 20vt that has done 154,000 miles, this is her second coupe, she used to have a red 16vt which unfortunately was written off! This one is still going strong. Quite an impressive grand total of 348,000 coupe miles.

I keep lookin but then something jumps up to slap me back down again (the joys of being self employed) I almost had one the other month till an incident at the shop scuppered that. What I did realise is that I know what I want and will hold out for it (the yellow plus that CarlT has tops a shortlist) However a new corsa for the wife and taking deliver of brand new van in March doesn't leave an awful lot for a play thing Stu

And another - 190,000 passed on the way to work this morning 76 days for the last 5,000 - 65 per day average If you look back up this thread, you'll see I posted that I'd broken 165,000 one year and one day ago. 25,000 in a year, at an average of around 25mpg equals 1,000 litres of fuel at £5 per litre, equals £5,000, but that's out of net pay, so that's about £8,500 out of my gross salary Ouch

At about £1200 for an install and half price fuel after that, you'd save a fortune. I've just got 400 miles out of my last tank of unleaded - 32.5mpg. Very happy with that James

Great stuff Nigel, treat your car to a professional valet to celebrate, and then sit on the back seat with a friend and share some bicentennial cake Julia ps If you would like to, send me the clock image and I'll try to weave it into the Club pages in the 2009 Club Calendar

Good to see coupes being used.
I bought mine in 2000 with 22000 miles on the clock, passed 140,000 miles today, original engine & turbo, good oil pressure, low oil consumption and no smoke. Not modded mind you..
I've changed lots of the standard 'expendable' bits, but the car has only let me down once and that was just a tiny split in a water hose. Service & oil change every 12,000 miles
Still not bored of it, so have just had the bonnet resprayed to cover up the stone chips, now looks brillant again..... It's going to take me a while to reach 200k though.

a few of us at the last red lion meet had a chat about millage.
who in the UK has the highest millage on the standard internals and has not had a re-build.
my mate Dan has 146k and has not had any engine work done besides tuning stuff and it still pulls like a train!
can any one top that?

iv got 136k and mines still runs pulls like a train aswell done 247mile round trip in it the weekend on half a tank. High mileage is nothing tome i think as long as a car has been looked after regular oil changes with decent oil and looked after like warmed up before boost and cooled down a engine in a 140k car is no different to a 80k. just my point

all these figures are pathetic. Try 263k on an original engine, never needed a thing doing on it except 6k oil change intervals, no head gasket, nothing. Had 2 new turbos in this time, 2 clutches, 2 OC and pipes, and 2 radiators. Still going today

That is in a word, ASTONISHING Just goes to show how strong these engines are, very re-assuring to any of those that are stupidly put off by high-mileage cars keep up the good work!

gotta say for the first time in my life i'm looking forward to buying a 100k mile car in the next few weeks. prior to coupe ownership there is no way i'd have considered that, but with some tlc, mechanical sympathy and the right bloke looking after it i have no qualms whatsoever. i look forward to many more miles of coupe driving, i love em....

I think around the 100k mark for these cars is about what you want to aim for, perhaps a bit lower but at this mileage they seem to run as though theyve done about 50k its a shame that some people go for low mileage ones and then get stung by all the upcoming big jobs that the higher mileage ones have already had performed on them.

It's OK I believe you. I remember when i was kid in the days before seatbelts were even fitted to cars, 8 of us were taking a drive with my uncle (3 in the front 5 in the back!) His speedo was about to return to zero (for you youngies speedos only used to have 5 digits because most cars never used to see 100000 miles) So he got us all of us leaning towards the dashboard to witness this magical event, and then a car pulled out of a side road - the brakes were applied, we all flew around the inside of the car and ... well lets say there ended up with more in the front of the car than the rear It was a bit of an anticlimax after that. So only another 27778 miles until the next magor milestone then nigel

Another one reached today - 225,000 47 days for the last 5,000 - an average of 106 per day Looking back over this thread, its just under two years since I turned 175,000, so I'm still running at just over 25,000 per year. The actual rate is higher than that, as its been off the road for a month this year, and at least a fortnight the year before. Still get a buzz from it though - still enjoy embarrassing MUCH more expensive machinery (like the SL55AMG in Hertfordshire today - he didn't look too pleased with the performance of his supercar - some pesky little Fiat gaining on him )

I refused to watch a bunch of Z-list semi-celebs faffing around in the "jungle", so I've mucked around in Excel instead Car turned 228,000 yesterday, which is: - 9.16 times around the earth
- just 5,000 miles short of the average distance from the earth to the Moon - (in fact if I'd timed it right [Closest the Moon gets is 220,582, surface-to-surface] - I'd have landed a few weeks ago )
- About 8,100 gallons of fuel - cost in today's terms - about £42,000
- About 250 litres of oil - cost in today's terms - about £2,400
- 55 miles a day since it was first registered
- Over 193 million revolutions of the wheels
- And bizarrely, because the car will have been subjected to the radius of the earth, the roof will have travelled further than the floor - about 85 yards further

how many revolutions of the engine has it done then??!! At an average speed of say 40mph, and in an average gear of say 4th, the revs would be at around 2,500rpm. At an average of 40mph, the car will have been running for 5,700 hours (or 237 days, non-stop), so at 2,500rpm (=150,000 revs per hour) = 855 million

Ah well - this will be the last mileage update before Sprinty goes to Coupe-heaven It turned 246,000 today and will be off the road from tomorrow (and will be re-insured for a few days for TOTB) So, here's some stats:- The car is 4,363 days old - the average daily mileage is 56.38 - an average speed of 2.35mph for its entire life I've owned it for 2,492 days and done 166,000 miles in my ownership - average daily mileage 66.16 Its done the equivalent of: London to Edinburgh 604 times Land's End to John O'Groats 290 times Round the world 8.8 times To the Moon, just once (but its 13,000 miles into the journey home ) There are still a few original bits - subframes, alternator, driveshafts, aircon compressor, most of the electrics, most of the interior and of course, the shell. I'll be really sad to see it go - its served me very well over the last few years. I reckon I've been sat in it for around 4,200 hours while racking up the mileage - the equivalent of 173 days non-stop

You really should be running up another 4000 miles in it Nigel, because if you don't you'll always be left wondering........ Would it have got to the 1/4 million milestone seriously though, amazing mileage, looking forward to seeing the new one at MM in a few weeks, never seen a real live Plus before Paul

Nigel what's your target mileage for the Plus? Depends - if it goes like the last one, there's no reason to believe it won't have 200,000+ in the next half dozen years However, I reckon its more likely that I'll grow tired of the noise and firm ride and I'll buy myself an everyday hack for the big business miles, which will bring the Coupe down to a couple of thousand miles a year at the moment though, there's no sign of me getting tired of it, so the mileage will rack up at the usual 25 - 30k per annum

so whats the total engine miles now? Its just turned 200,000 It had done 55,000 when I bought it from Mavric - it went into my Sprinty when it was on about 110,000. I put another 136,000 on it in the Sprinty, and I've added another 10,000 in the Moonie
