Maybe regular use and heat keeps it alive (well it's really the pipes that go though, not the cooler itself!)
Mine went on the motorway and nearly killed me when doing 150kph it started twitching, car wasn't happy to follow instructions and nearly went off when I tried to slow down. Oil was pissing on the wheel hence no brakes and steering. (engine survived btw)

I think I might get it done jut to be on the safe side. I'm going to be keeping the car for a good while yet so I might as well keep it tip-top.

The cooler matrix itself looks fine but I believe the pipes are VERY hard to remove from the cooler unit and thats why most folks replace both together.

I have been offered a brand new cooler and pipes from a forum member for "278,75eur incl P&P and insured delivery" which is about £195

Does that sound good?

James

The coolers can last a very long time if they arent hit by anything too big coming thru the ventricle in the bumper but they arent that easy to remove from the pipes so most people replace the pair. if we could ever get hold of a good set of used ones then it would probably be cheaper to get Pirtek or the like to make up some braided ones and coat the in some PVC or the like to act as a sheath against the elements and thus last longer than standard and past most owners ownership of thier coops \:\)

I saw Roy Howard and his better half, Tracy, at the weekend.

They both own coupes;

Roy has a Sprint Blue that has done 194,000 miles. He has owned it since 5,000 miles. It has had one engine re-build early on in it life (15K AFAIK) and has been modded since then.

Tracy has a red 20vt that has done 154,000 miles, this is her second coupe, she used to have a red 16vt which unfortunately was written off! This one is still going strong.

Quite an impressive grand total of 348,000 coupe miles. \:o

On 25 May, I posted that I had just turned 160,000.

Today, it turned 165,000.

5,000 miles in 49 days, and I haven't had as many business trips as usual in the last month or so.

Crikey Nigel - thats about 100 miles a day. 36,500 miles a year. You'll be turning 200,000 within the next 12 months...!

Another milestone - another 5,000 miles - just turned 170,000 as I parked up this morning

took 59 days this time instead of the 49 days last time round - far less business trips than usual means I've been confined mostly to commuting, with only three or four 200+ mile days.

I wonder how much of your car has done the full 170k.

Apart from the bodyshell it must have all been replaced at least once. Even the body has had its paint replaced at least twice. \:\)

slowing down a bit - turned 175,000 today - its taken me 74 days this time, but it was off the road for a couple of weeks with the failed crank sensor and the forged rods rebuild

my job might be changing which will mean a substantial increase in the miles (but I'll be given either a company car or a car allowance)

actually - I've just looked at the very first post in this thread - it was six days short of one year ago when I reported breaking the 150,000 mile mark.

So, I've done 25,000 miles, but in that time its had nearly two months off the road (two week rebuild plus a six week respray)

that works out at about 2,500 miles a month, or about 83 a day

Hmmm - slowing down even more

passed 180,000 today - 78 days for another 5,000 miles, but that includes the Christmas break, when it didn't move for a week and also a week off the road with a broken sump

Ive been doing 100 miles a day for the last year in my last job but I cant be assed with the traveling so opted to work nearer. Btw the coupe ate every mile without fail (except the thermostat) \:D .

180K could be considered low mileage relative to this!

If I was the MD of Volvo UK, I'd buy that car as a rolling advert - just shows what a modern car can do

Yup - it had done about 80k when you sold it to me, so its been well used.

Are you any closer to getting your fourth?

I keep lookin but then something jumps up to slap me back down again (the joys of being self employed)

I almost had one the other month till an incident at the shop scuppered that.

What I did realise is that I know what I want and will hold out for it (the yellow plus that CarlT has tops a shortlist)

However a new corsa for the wife and taking deliver of brand new van in March doesn't leave an awful lot for a play thing \:\)

It would be interesting to see who has done the highest mileage on the original engine...

153K no rebuilds! Think Nigel mentioned someone near 170K.

There's a couple on or over 200k now.

Engines are superb, its the crap stuck to them and the user to blame.

It's a shame Fiat don't make the high badges like Mercedes do, in that story about the Greek taxi ...see above

And I'll get it said before some else does........I guess they ( Fiat) were not expecting the Coupé's to go that distance

Another milestone - 185,000 turned today - 80 days for the last 5,000, equals 62.5 per day.

And another - 190,000 passed on the way to work this morning

76 days for the last 5,000 - 65 per day average

If you look back up this thread, you'll see I posted that I'd broken 165,000 one year and one day ago. 25,000 in a year, at an average of around 25mpg equals 1,000 litres of fuel at £5 per litre, equals £5,000, but that's out of net pay, so that's about £8,500 out of my gross salary

Ouch \:\(
