hello everybody..
glad to have finally joined the forum!
have got a simple question here and would like to hear opinions before i have the exhaust system installed...

currently a stock 20vt coupe...
with HKS SSqv BOV and Apexi air-filter installed...
gona change the exhaust system next!
will be a straight flow exhaust system...
the question is, for a coupe of such settings, what is the best exhaust piping diameter should be? 2.5", 2.75" or 3"?

no intention of bringing it to above 300bhp...

Thanks and regards..

I would say the 3" would be best suited.

The 16VT has a 2.5-2.75 pipe standard. Some go larger than 3" but I think 3" with free flowing straight through mufflers should be good. 2.5 and 2.75 are proably a bit small especially if you are going to be running a bit more boost.

thanks saint...
however, many have told me that...if i have no intention to mod the coupe up to 300hp, there's no need to install a 3" exhaust...In fact, keeping at 2.5" is the best as it does not lose unnecessary power...
do comment....thanks!

If ylur after a wee bit of extra 'sound' from the exhaust and want the back sections to last longer you can opt for a Cat-back system which will often gice you a tiny power gain if u rolling road it but i am not sure as to how much, you wouldnt notice it on the road though..

If you dont want to mod your coop then there isnt much point going for a full system or such like IMO.

You should change the down pipe. The standard is really small, 2.5" all the way to the cat. The exhaust gases are pretty hot and have expanded a lot, so a big down pipe is really good to have. Change it to a 3" and you will have better response and couple of more hp at the end . Have you thought about a metallic cat (i.e. race cat)? Are you thinking about a de-cat system?

Cheers

Freddan

hey guys!

do give me suggestions...
currently, all that i have in mind is that....
to install a straight flow exhaust all the way to the muffler...
no cat for sure....i'd probably install a straight flow bullet...what say u guys?
install a bullet or just let it be straight flow....?

and yea...i was told that putting a 3" exhaust for my current stock coupe will only decrease the power....as the piping will be too big...3" is for only coupes that are above 300bhp, that what i was told. What say you guys? do comment...thanks!

2.5" will give you better torque low down, but will hinder your top end

3" will lose your low down torque will but will have a much better top end

All depends on what you want from the car

Also running a decat or such like system will possibly lead to quicker wear on your turbo....

Honestly if your wanting to stay standard then Catback ehausts are the best option

Well actually, it's more like 2" I'm afraid! In the smallest place. Someone here (don´t remember who) did a measure of his old std. system.
True still, it's most important with big pipes when the gasses are hot, i.e. in the beginning...
