Anonymous Unregistered A	Right I'm no whizz with music. The Stereo I have wont play Cd's as it jumps around. Added a lead to hook up my Creative Zen but the sound is terrible. Would SD card be a better way for me to go? or are they just a gimmick at the moment?

Anonymous Unregistered A	I looked at some in Halfrauds the other day and they looked quite good. Some of the Sony units have memory built into the facias, so you can just plug it into your pc usb port and drag music straight over from you pc. Check this out

Anonymous Unregistered A	1 gig is not that much though. you could buy a jvc giga dvd HU that will read, funnily enough, dvd's full of MP3's theres 4.5 gig and just as easy to burn a dvd if you need to hook a computer up to your HU nice idea though

It's been in the car for about a year and a half with no problems. It's a lot easier to just take it out and transfer music onto than copying discs all the time. I don't think it's a gimmick at all, it's very useful and handy. Definately worth buying one in my opinion.

Anonymous Unregistered A	Once you have burnt a dvd you would not have to do it again though prob a good option if you already have sd sticks lying about. i only have CF, MS and Pro Duo, so it would be another thing to buy. i personally find my pod the best medium to hook up to. 25 quid for a cable to plug into my HU via AUX input, hardwired charger too (although this does give off alternator buz when charging ) and fantastic sound quality and 20gig space. back to the slot, better to have one than not i suppose

Anonymous Unregistered A	I managed to get a blaupunkt nashville DAB down to less than 180 squids from halfrauds - had to phone around as they are discontinuing it in their shops - although widely available elsewhere. This even included a free dab ariel and fitting. It has and SD card slot (although i havent had chance to use it yet as am too busy creaming over the cd quality radio). plus for about 90 clams you can get a bluetooth unit which you can also plug in a usb too - so expansion not a problem... ALSO (and no I dont work for blaupunkt) they do a tidy IR remote that goes on the sterring wheel for about 35 squiddles.

Not sure if it would come up to audiophile standard using MP3's but with my pod in place i cannot tell the difference to a well ripped cd and the original. i do think all these sd holes, usb dongles etc will be adding to the price where better sound quality could be had for the same or less money. not sure the HDD would work with the usb dongled face plates. in fact i know they wont. both units are slave units, so they could not transfer the data IIRC.

With mp3 disks jumping should not be an issue either as the player caches the tracks. The 1GP is great too IMHO. I like Sony stuff and have cd changes and steering wheel controls so making a change to another manufacturer is expensive. Go for it

I would go for This DVD unit. With Dual layer disks you will get 8mb per disk enough for pleant of tunes at 192 kbps or higher. John

If that is true and I'm having trouble with my CD's jumping wont I still have the same trouble? Also, How do you know what songs you got on it? Does it work like an Ipod? Dowsn't take much for me to be confused

Anonymous Unregistered A	well i have found my jvc does not jump as much as my original HU even with the addition of coilovers, but the options above for you still might skip so long as the music you put onto the dvd is labeled correctly, tagged, it will display titles just like a cd you then scroll through the folders of music like folders on a PC drive/dvd/cd. as the SD cards are so cheap these days maybe one of those units would be best for you, and a 4gig SD stick or something i am sure you would be more than happy with this sort of arrangement. OR can you buy rca cables that connect to your zen? this would be best i think, connecting the zen properly via rca cables to a new HU

Dowsn't take much for me to be confused Yes you have to download onto a disk (cd or DVD depending on model) but unlike older CD units the player does not read as it plays but reads ahead too (cacheing). Therfore if a bump in the road interups the reading there is enough of the music stored on the player memory not to interupt the sound. The player read ID3 tags, these are the tags that ripping software (such as Window Media Player or Itunes) add to MP3. tracks. you can then browse on the player by album artist etc. How about a better alternaive If you have a Sony CD player why not buy an Ipod (even a cheaper older generation one) and one of these adapters . You can then control your ipod via the stereo and all the trac info will also be displayed on the sony head unit. It plugs into the CD changer socket of the sony unit. It fools the headunit into thinking that the ipod is a cd changer

Anonymous Unregistered A	bockers you surprise me how awful that would sound, how about buying an alpine cda 7990 with prob the best anti vibration mechanism you can get, then buy proper cd`s the original studio ddd ones lol or even an alpine dvi 9990r that will even play you beloved mp3and wma etc as they come with no speaker output,[no onboard amps rightly so imop] in the pre out stage only,4v preout which can be boosted easily to eight,[no interference] with copper chassis and researched patented quality components [no silly gimmick circuits] producing a far superior dynamic signal and frequency response they optimise all sound and will enable you to open your ears to real sound stage lol of course this comes at a price as the best usually does lol

If however you are like me, not an audiophile, but like to listen to music and want a wide choice available (without a fist full of disks) then MP3 is the format of choice. I choose Sony because i have a 10 disk changer and 6 disk Minidisk changer that will not work, unfortunately with and Alpine HU

Anonymous Unregistered A	My system at the moment has no rear speakers attached. Can't play CD's as they jump. Radio never keeps a station because of the poor reception. I paid 20 quid or so for a lead to attach my Zen but sounds so tiny. All I'm after is a stereo that will play my music to a reasonable level but wont cost a bomb. It's a car for christ sake. SD Card looks good. Simply download my music. Slot in and play. No jumping etc. With 1 gig I should get a good amount of songs on it at a good bitrate. Only drawback is paying extra for the cards I liked the Sony one with the facia that plugs into my PC. Trouble is recording at 64kbps is shit

Anonymous Unregistered A	Arrrrrr is that what it looks like ajg graham like I said in the first place get your self out and about and have a look and a listen work a budget out and shop around your probs with your reception and disk jumping are an easy fix and there are plenty of great little units out there at the end of the day its what your happy with that matters not what me or any one else suggests mate

As I said, I have the 7534 (so a model a little up on the line) and the SQ with OE speakers is more than acceptable ... & I would be considered an audiofool when it comes to my system indoors!

Anonymous Unregistered A	I wanted something to store my music on a couple of years ago in my Alfa GTA. I had the Bose sound system but didn't want to have 100 CDs in the car. In the end I bought an IPod and dension ICE link which replaced the CD Autochanger. The sound was superb. Now I've got my Coupe I got the ICE-Link FM unit. Its not quite as good as the autochanger link but still pretty good. Certainly good enough for the car - lets face it there's a lot of background noise so you won't notice the difference on the move. Got my last one for £25 on ebay. Dension in the US also do a stereo with a built in hard disk which looks interesting but a bit pricey.
